When you play a road player......

I'm trying to figure out why a roadman would use you as bait.
You play good your not a sailor and you know the right people to ask.
If you get backed by deep pockets sometimes I could see that.
or if you are the brains of the operation down there they would want to give you bad Intel
Otherwise I think one of the last of the suckers stumbled up on you
Put 190 in the safe and spend the rest frivolously on pool time
Keep on keepin on brother

Actually, there is a VERY GOOD REASON to use me as bait. They know that they can play me for $50 a game and if they play under their speed at an odd game like one pocket and lose, it won't allow many people to clock their rotational game's speed.

Besides that, my record, getting weight from road players is about 50/50 so they have an even chance of getting my cheese and can pay for their stay in New Orleans just on my little pittance alone.

To be candid, I played at my best level against this particular guy. It was just my night I guess. Anyway, I will just keep the 190 in my sock.

Even at one pocket, 4 games doesn't tell very much. The road player probably didn't show too much. Anybody who walks into a strange place and hands out weight, has to be better than that. Then again, who knows how much of his game JoeyA showed. Maybe he was over his head spotting Joey. If I knew he was a big money player I wouldnt give him anything back, spot wise. I'd wait first, see if he moves on to others and what he does with them. If he doesn't, make him earn the money back with the same game you did. Then play well, with his money....and force him to show you what he's got.

I'm kind of torn. I wouldn't mind adjusting the spot if I knew for sure the guy wasn't laying down.

If he really wanted to play me again, all he has to do is ask.

The owner of the pool room will often tush-hog me into playing and when he gets involved it usually doesn't always go my way. (That's another reason the road players like to play me. :D)

you'll have to worry about anyone ever "laying down a lemon"

After this thread I don't think you'll have to worry about anyone ever "laying down a lemon" anymore. ;)

If big money guys are in the pool room but no one is playing the visiting player and you step up to play for $50 a game with a road player, and you win 4 games of one pocket in a row getting a spot. When he quits after four games and thanks you for the action, do you wonder if he is spreading a little corn around for $50 a game?

If he quits after losing 4 games in a row, how do you know if he wasn't laying down just a bit to bring the big larcenists in a little closer?

Would you adjust the spot the next time you play? I was wondering more about whether he was laying out a little corn, more so than adjusting the spot but anyway, chime in. Saw, you're invited too.

Maybe he's a philanthropist, maybe he likes your streaming commentary and was giving you an off the air tip, or maybe he just laying down to make a game with Helfert.....

Hard to say really.... Everyone moves a little different. If you think you're supposed to have the worst of it or that its dead gambling, he was probably just showing the room that he's giving away money and inciting people to come get some. Most in that circle would know that you will gamble and love to play but that you're not going to blow a huge number like others in the area, so I wouldn't think he's laying a lemon down to get you, just looking at the big picture. If you're going to give away some money at least give it to someone you like, is nice, and/or is deserving...

If you were matched up to where you liked your end or even had a little the best of it, it could be a few things.... You played good and got the money like you were supposed to. He seen it was a tough game and didn't like having to grind real hard and show speed for just a $50 bet. Or he simply had you clocked wrong and instead of being a nit and quitting after a couple games he did himself a favor and blew a respectable number of games to show action.

No way you should adjust next time! One, theres no way I'm adjusting a one pock spot after 4 games, 6 is the minimum for me. Especially playing a road player or someone you have no clue about.... If he wants to play the same game for $50 again, play.... If you get up more $ and he wants to adjust and/or raise the bet, do it and play his own money against him, if he gets even, unscrew.

You're tougher than me, Saw. I've got a soft spot for the road players, although I don't like giving their money back right away, I may have to offer a small adjustment just to keep my rep as a mark, intact.

He lost four games @ $50 and didn't ask to adjust the spot? Maybe his just hates his money.

Well if the guy really harps on lowering the spot, I would think he wasn't really a road player. Just a guy looking to make his 200 back. In which case, I'd lower the spot. If he wins it all back and you still cant decide, at least you should get your original spot back.
