Or, a person who starts a poll to define the word "nit".

Back in 90 or 91 the local pool room owner & well known backer had a decent sized tournament that ran for two days and brought in some fairly big names due to a recent pro tourney in the area. Tommy Kennedy won the tournament and proceeded to collect his winnings and leave. I recall one of the locals ranting and raving about what a nit TK was because he wouldn't gamble. "Here he is with all that money in his pocket and the F'ing nit won't gamble a dime of it...and all these players in here..." LOL, he was pissed!SUPERSTAR said:On thing though, i know of players who are classified as nits soley based on the fact that they play well but don't gamble, despite never chirping at anyone. It's usually by the degenerate gamblers who have no life where the guy who they call a nit, usually has some semblance of responsibility like a mortgage or rent or something serious that prevents them from ever gambling really high, but to the gambing pool players, this is perceived as a flaw, and they throw them in the nit category.

Agreed...there are many different ways it can be used as specified in earlier posts. If you were to generalize your definition of nit in the pool world, would you say it's based more about money/gambling, or would you say that it's short for "nit-wit"?JimBo said:BTW for me the term nit requires some context to decide which way it should be read.

If i am pounding on someone, why should i up the bet and make it EASIER for them to break even, if not win.
Just cause someone is stuck, and wants to chase their money, doesn't in any way obligate me to up the bet for their benefit.
If they can't hack the game, they can quit, but there is no way that i'm gonna provide them with an opportunity to win a LESS AMOUNT of games then i did, and be rewarded for it. If they wanted to bet it up, they could have said that right from the start.
wayne said:That was exactly his point. You are a NIT.
SUPERSTAR said:And you must be one of those guys who chase their money when they are losing by asking to raise the bet cause you can't deal with looking at being stuck 12 games or so.
You must like losing
