Where are the thriving pool halls?

I'm recently retired and now able to live most anywhere in the country that I choose. My choice will be a place with warm weather and a healthy pool community. Actually, I'm living in a fifth wheel trailer and able to move around pretty easily.

I spent a week in Virginia Beach during the US Open 9B tourney last month and that area has a lot to offer - including the biggest pool hall in the USA: Q-Master with seventy some tables.

Now I'm in Savannah where there's a healthy place called Southside Billiard Club. It's a well run place with about 20 or so tables including 7ft, 8ft, 9ft, Snooker and a 3C table. Very friendly folks around here.

So where are the places you know that are doing well and likely to still be going in ten or twenty years?

Seems to be a lot of rooms in the Clearwater/Tampa/St Pete area and have been for a long time.

But the grand daddy of all the rooms in FL was Baker's and that's gone. Planet 9 ball...gone and a few more in Tampa/ST.Pete are gone. Also there were a ton of action bars in the area that no longer have as many or no tables in them. Ask CJ. Johnnyt

There is no shortage of thriving pool halls in Pinellas County, Florida...

I'm talking about St.Pete, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs

I could get in my car right now and hit 5 different, good pool halls within 1/2 hour drive...

It's going pretty good here. I wouldn't say excellent but good. There's 5 longstanding pool halls Diamonds being the best.

I know a couple snow birds from Chicago that hang at Diamonds and tell me lots of good stories about it and the management..

Thanks all for the useful replies.

Is Florida one of the States that still allows smoking? Do the places above allow smoking?

Not so sure about "Thriving" but Top Hat and Triple Nines in Maryland seem to be doing well.

Yes and pool halls are grandfathered in.

However non "pool hall" businesses with pool tables it depends on the percentage of food sold compared to alcoholic beverages. I think if it's less than 20% food its smoking allowed.

Another good thing about living in a 5th wheel in Florida...when it's time to flee an approaching hurricane, you can take your house with you.

I read this to my wife and she said that she had already thought of that. At least hurricanes give a warning, unlike some other natural disasters.

Thriving is what the balance sheet shows after the real books are audited by a CPA. Busy, lots of Action, lots of People don't mean squat.

Think Fargo does alright. Great room also.

I second THAT! It's a step up from most any pool room that I have been in. Great equipment, great food, great ambiance, great people. I know I missed something......
