Where best to store cues in apartment.

So I live in a two bed/two bath apartment with a roommate and his dog. I have been keeping my cues in my bedroom but it has an attached bathroom and I'm concerned about the humidity issue. I have been storing them in the opposite corner of the room and keeping the bathroom door shut at all time to help keep the humidity in their and not in the bedroom area. Do you think that is a problem?

If so, where else would be best? I have a linen closet right outside my bedroom door but it is just down the hall from the other bathroom...not sure that is much better. I would prefer to keep them out of the common area because of the dog and other issues. Also, with the kitchen in there there is sometimes humidity/temperature issues from that which could be an issue as well.

So I just don't know what is best for my cues in light of my limited options. Any ideas?

Ummm...yeah...should I not be? Am I being stupid and way over thinking this? I've just heard people say you should never store your cues in the vicinity of your bathroom but I don't have a lot of other good options. Hey, if it's not a concern that is awesome. I'm an admitted newbie to all this and just going off what I've heard from some others and seeking more advice.

You can tell me I'm being stupid if you think this is a total non-issue:) Actually, that would be great news as I would love to not have to worry about it at all.

All you need to do is.

I really think you are being overly concerened about this. I think as long as you keep them in your Whitten case in your bedroom is more than enough protection for the cues. On another note don't leave your cues stored in your car for long lengths of time in both the cold winter months or the hot summer months. This should be enough to keep your cues safe from any harm the weather could cause.

Excellent, thanks for the input. That is great because I much prefer having them in my bedroom.

The only rule I follow in my house is not to store the cues on an outside wall. The variation of temperature during the days and evenings seems to warp cues.

Unless someone is taking 12 hours showers in super hot, steaming water every single day, I don't think you have anything to worry about. On second thought, even if that was the case, I still wouldn't be worried about it.

Just keep them in your case and in your closet. I'd be more worried about the dog getting to them than the bathroom humidity.

I'd be more concerned about damage from the dog chewing on the case...perhaps coat hooks placed near the ceiling, hang your case from those?

Use the power vent when showering and also sitting on the pot.

Keep your cue in a good case and in the closet in your bed room.

Ah, see the advantage of keeping them in my room is that the dog is not allowed in my room. Bedroom door is always shut for this reason.

I do make sure to store them against an inside wall so that isn't a problem. I'm sure it's probably ok, I don't feel too much humidity in my room even after a shower. Keeping the bathroom door closed seems to keep it pretty well contained. Of course it's still humid in there from my morning shower when I come home for lunch 5 hours later, but bedroom feels pretty normal to me.

Thanks for the input everyone, I feel much better about it now.

keep 'em in your closet. or you could buy a dehumidifier and keep your cues under your bed

Whitten case are proved to be one of the best cases to keep out humidity. I don't remember which thread it is, I think it was said in the Justice vs. Whitten thread. That is one of the reason Gina uses them as their company case. Keeping the cues in your case while it is in the closet or in a drawer in your room is good enough. Unless you have a lot of untrusty traffic going in and out of your house or your don't trust your room mate, you could easily keep it in a different closet. I usually keep my case and cues in my room (I don't have a attached bathroom thought :(). Or I keep it in the walk in closet by the front door, in the back corner and keep the door shut. As they have said, if the dog would chew on it, make sure where ever you keep it, the dog wouldn't be able to get to it. If it wasn't your fault that the case got chewed on and was because your roommate left the closet open and the dog got to it, looks like your roommate will be buying you a new case.

Never ever leave your cue and case in the car. If I am stopping by my friends, I take my stuff in with me. I never leave my cues and case in the car, not only regarding the harsh conditions inside the car will warp and destroy your cues, but if your car gets broken into and BAM! Your stuff will be gone. So never leave it in your car.

I personally don't think it is stupid that you are worried about your equipment, don't worry, I know I am pretty anal about my stuff as well but of course, my stuff is not nearly as nice as yours. Good luck!

Happy shooting! :)

Would storing the cues in an airtight container with dessicant silica gel packs work? If silica gel packs are hard to get, I heard rice is cheaper and works just as well.

Uhhh.....You don't say if the roomy is a clepto, if the dog likes to chew things or even if the apt. manager comes in without knocking. I'd stick the cue in the air vent behind the filter if there is room. It would be out of reach of dog, roomy would never think to look there and the apt manager probably never changes the filter.

These are very good habits. a friend of mine left the pool hall and stopped by the store to get his chick some soup. he was in the restaurant for 5 minutes. when he got to his car someone had smashed his window and stolen his cues. there was 3-4k gone easy

in know they're not as fancy but i think instroke cases offer way better protection than whitten or justice cases. i mean WAY better!

No, roommate isn't a worry in regards to stealing anything, he's a great guy. The only other closets are commonly used by both of us though and while he's a great guy he would never be as careful with it as I would which is why I would hesitate to put it out int he public space, plus the door could get left open and the dog does like to chew things. If I can safely keep them in my room then I'm not worried beyond that. I was thinking some sort of tupperware type container to keep them in while in my room. My closes is of the sliding door variety and I usually have those open most of the time.

I've also been thinking of giving the GTF case a try and with the "air tight seal" on those I would think that would provide the absolute best protection against atmospheric conditions. There is a large and tight interface between the lid and body on those which I'm thinking probably does its job well.

Keep them in the bedroom or closet. It will not hurt them.

It doesn't take a vacuum to keep a cue in good condition.

Yeah, I love my Whitten for the quality and design, but the I would agree that the Instroke is probably better when it comes to protection. The Instroke tubes are pretty much perfect for a tube interior. That is part of the reason I'm looking at the GTF. Same type of protection, just without the tubes, and in a style I like more then the Instroke.

Then again, the Whitten is pretty darn good IMO, there are just one or two tweaks that could help make them perfect.
