Would appreciate a lead from you guys. I'll be in the Aneheim area for the duration of the week next week. Does anyone know any decent place to play/practice in Anaheim? Preferably 9 footers with Simonis cloth and tight pockets (4" to 4.25"). THANKS ! ! !

Danny K's in Orange, not far from Anaheim.

Definitely Danny K's, the last time I had a meeting in Irvine, I went there two nights in a row. I think they have Gandy and Gold Crown tables if my memory is working.

Danny K's is the closest to anaheim in the city of orange but the pockets are huge about 4 3/4" maybe a bit bigger.

There is "Rack and Cue" in the city of Stanton which is close to Anaheim its on the streets of Katella and Western. There is a tournament there on monday night that starts around 8 o clock. Half the tables there have Simonis and three tables have really tight pockets.

No they are some kind of custom made tables, they are definately not gold crowns or gandys

The guy who made these tables, only did so for a few years. They are very good tables, and look a little like Anniversaries. They play good.

correct

That's right, I was confused because around the same time I had a meeting in Houston, and it was that place that had the Gandy and Gold Crown tables.

Play at rack n cue, end of story. They have what your asking for, unless you don't like loud music, and you want more than beer. They have as mentioned, 3 tight tables up front, and one fairly tight gold crown. And the waitress is easy on the eyes. PM me if you want to play some cheap ahead sets, or just some friendly competition.

Also note that Danny K's have some a couple of tables right in the front where you walk in that are much looser than those in the main room in the back where they have the tournaments. Those are strictly for "recreational" players ;-)

What other tournaments are there in the surrounding area? (various parts of LA) Are there any weekly one-pocket or 8 ball tourneys?

I dont know about one-pocket, but virtually all 8 ball tournies around here LA/OC are an absolute joke. The races are just absurdly short. One place in pasadena I went to, was kinda shady, wasn't really impressed and again the races were a joke, race to 3 winners side, race to 1 losers. Heres an example:

Hey RunoutalloverU,

Sorry it took me a while to reply. Double elimination, race to 2 on the A side and one game on the B side. Standard BCA rules except 8-ball on the break is a win, 8-ball+scratch on the break is a loss. Alternate break. The pool hall gives us 7 9x4.5 tables, most of which are Gold Crowns. Nappy run down cloth and dead rails= a whole lotta FUN! Free practice at 7pm with the tourny starting at 8:30. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks, Asgar

8-Ball Tourny in SoCal!
If any of you are in the area, I run a weekly tourny on Thursdays. Location is Charles Billiards in Glendale. Free parking and free table time starting at 6:00pm, tourny starts at 8:00pm. $15 entry includes a drink from the bar. Great people and a great room, some pretty good food too.

But if your into hot middle eastern chicks, it might not be that bad, lol.

They do play pretty good, but with big pockets.

Thanks to all you guys who offered the leads. Will check out Danny Ks and Rack N Cue as advised. Will also PM AZrs who offered a game or two if my schedule permits. Just wanted to bang a few balls and get in stroke for when I return home for the Pechauer Open. Thanks again! :)

Danny K's have Forge tables. They have very generous pockets. OF course I still miss em more than I make .
Rack n Cue has Gold Crown tables, Olhausen and had very tight Global tables like what they used for the last LA Open .
Of course from Anaheim you are only minutes away from The Hard Times.

danny k's is very nice with great people and tables, the pockets are bigger than you want. with all it's advantages however, they will be neutralized if you happen to play a guy named scotty morgan in the tournament.

if you want tight pockets and MORE scotty morgan type people, hop on the 91 west for 20 minutes and exit bellflower and go to hard times, which has tight pockets just like you like them.

Just to contrast Hard Times from Rack N' Cue, Hard Times tournament side, (the right side tables separated by a partition) has tight tables. All tables at hard times are 4X8, this is both true and misleading. You have two different surface dimensions of 4X8. On the left side of hard times, the regular gold crowns are the big surface 4X8's on the right the smaller ones. So there are no true full length tight tables at Hard Times. Also you have to take the atmosphere into consideration, if your take the game super serious, and don't mind people lurking (literally) around the corner waiting to see if they want to ask you to play for money, nobody really talks, laughs, and generally nobody seems to be having a good time on the tournament side of the hall at hard times. If thats what your looking for, a hardcore pool experience, than hard times is for you. Rack n Cue on the other hand is quite different, its a younger asain crowd, some can play, most arent too good. Its a much lighter atmostphere, and I actually like playing on full 4X8 tables with deep shelf tight pockets (almost like diamond, but not quite that deep). Nobody is there trying to make a game and arguing about the spot over your shoulder for 20 mins while you are trying to shoot. However, on any given night at hard times, you can see recognizable pros, some world class as well. So choice is yours, oh and Hard Times is alcohol free.

????????

It's been a few months since I have been to Hard Times but all of the tables are 4 1/2 x 9 Gold Crowns. (except bar box and snooker tables). Not sure where the 4 x 8 info came from.

The pockets in the main area at DannyK's are 4.5 inches. Don't know about the three up front.

9 inches , I think.
Wayne's table has 4.5. Most at the tournament side have like 4 9/16 I think except for the two which used to be Wayne's practice tables. One is in the corner now and one is near the railing.
