Where to play in LA

And your point is?

When visiting family, I don't know when I'm going to get the chance to break away and play. So I go when I can, don't broadcast it, nor make appointments. Last trip I wasn't even going to take a pool cue but called Jay in advance to ask if we might be able to get together one day.

Doesn't mean it's not weird that no one will play some cheap 1pocket in 20 visits with someone walking in the door.

So, now you've got Jim and Eric saying everyone there is "scared." Me? I'm not saying anyone is "scared" and I'm not kevetching about it either -- I'm simply relating that no one has played me there in 20 visits. Now, i've got a couple of guys acting like ten-year olds protecting the rep of their playground. It's like being in a bad remake of "The Bad News Bears."

lol, it's also funny that all this is coming from yobagua -- a professional viewer who just likes to squawk from the rail.

Lou Figueroa

There you go with the name calling again. Ive played just about every regular in this pool hall for money. Ive played Wayne, Rich, Big Phil, (John Henderson can tell you who he is), etc. I don't need to name call you. We can see what you are and what you are made of.

You like facts. Here are some.

You had to retract your statement. When you said "I have gambled with pros".

When Vicki H asked you how you would like to match up with John.
Im the one who stepped up for $100 sets. Not you.

John Schmidt would like to step outside with you not me.
I now understand why.

Wayne was there when you said you've never seen him there. Available and willing.

3 regulars came up to me yesterday. 2 guys and one woman. They said, "He never asked me. Ill play him.". These are people who are in there at least 5 days a week. If you don't see them after 20 visits its like walking into a Chinese restaurant and not seeing noodles on the menu.

Diliberto said to me yesterday.
Yeah I know the guy. He came up to me in Tunica and introduced himself and then proceeded to tell me who hes played. I asked him "Would you like to play an old man? And he never responded".

Look Lou I find it admirable that you visit your mother. Youre a good son. If you had come in and said I cant find a game here can you help me find a game, we all would treat you like a friend. But instead you acted like the person you are. At least Jim had the smarts not to go on with his line of thinking. No matter how you spin and deflect truth stands out above all. .

Im sorry Lou call me what you want but I find your actions despicable. Please don't come back. I find you disgusting. I thought that spending a few hours with you I might see some light of humanity. But no. I don't think I could learn anything or at least enjoy myself. And I think if people followed this thread they can discern the truth from the fake. Just go away.

To Jay, Eric, Wayne, lets play. Win or Lose at least I learn something or enjoy myself. Life is too short to deal with the dregs.

Yeah, poor Fatboy could only get $300/game action. That's way too low for a big shot gambler like Lou. ;)

I'm not a big shot, i just put a value on my time and also look for a angle that gives me a edge, i need to put some lead in his stroke, and $300 dont do that. $500 and he dont play as good, I wanted to bet $500/game. If I was trying to hi rill him i'd ask to bet a dime. I didnt do that. I asked to bet $500 for a reason. a very specfic reason.

After a busy day with family, I drove over to Manila Billiards in Carson about 45 minutes ago to just hit some balls, only to find the whole strip mall is dead. How is a pool room not even open at just past 10pm on a Thursday night?

I wish I saw this thread earlier about the action in SM...I would've headed straight there. I'll head that way tomorrow night for some drinks and practice.

Rod

wow last i heard 6 months ago the joint was rocking , so goes pool.....

Hey Eric. Im a neophyte when it comes to full rack but love to play it.
Keone
Dang my dance card is getting filled.

i'll play full rack for $20. Thats good action for me, banks gets me in stroke real nice. will be fun too. I might come today, its 1120, i'll make a plan by 2

I don't get to post much on here but I would like it if you would be willing to negotiate a game that should please Lou and Fatboy. I am willing to play Lou a race to 5, 6 or 7 for $2,000 to $5,000. Fatboy can go in with him if he wants. That way Fatboy has some action and Lou gets to make up for all of his non action. I am willing to give Lou a spot but just how much would need to be negotiated. It doesn't have to be HOB it can be Hardtimes. Whatever cueball they want is fine. I will try to arrange my schedule to meet their requirements. Win Win for everyone. Wayne

Wayne If I'm going to bet $5000, i'm going to be playing, no knock on Lou. I like to play too. we can figure a game and bet high if you like. I like:)

.

Hey Eric. I have an appointment with doctors at 4:30. So Ill be in after that.
Saturday I can come in after 3PM. Id love to knock them around with you.
You can teach me a few things.
Keone

$300 would be out of my comfort zone on those tables. I'm just a $10 to $40 a game kinda of a guy when traveling.

Lou Figueroa

your a wise man, especially in there with out experience on those tables. Lou i can get you a game in there for $20-$30-$40/rack no problem, i'll steer you good into a fair game.

I wasnt as wise i blew $1000 in 5 racks of 8 ball in 20 minutes there the 1st time , wait that was the 2nd time i played there. i lose 3 games of 1P for $50/rack a few years before that in there. so i went back figured out the equipment and got my $1000 back. I remember when i lost the dime I called up Oscar and was yelling and screaming about the equipment, LOL he was cool about it, i cooled off and it was all good.

that will be great, Saturday works better for me! I'll be there just come get me and we can play full rack banks for $20 all day.

Lou,

I will play you even there , you have the best of it but i am used to the tables, so maybe i have a little shot to break even. $20/rack. is that cool, then you can get used(if thats even possible) to the tables and play and have fun.

I been doing the same thing with Oscar and Papa. Your pockets are too tight I say.
They say "Amigo, just play better!". Running a rack of 9 ball on those tables is like running 3 at Amsterdam Billiards in NY.

All day??? You have a bad back. Im going to see the doc about mine. Do you think we can stand it?? Good thing we got a good chiropractor in the house. Cheers!

Wow for a place that wont give action to anybody you get a lot of action. But then of course that's what makes Fatboy, Fatboy.

whoa, lol, look at you go!

A few posts ago you were the guy who said, “Im not going to talk about myself. I don't need to.” Now you’re doing everything but giving out the social security numbers of everyone you’ve played. And, you’re crowing about “stepping up” to play JS but in the same post admitting “I donate too.” Pretty ironic since you take me to task for the making the same distinction. And if you have trouble being called "a professional viewer" (all the while being a hypocrite and calling me “the dregs”) you should love playing JS who likes to use stronger language. If he’s your buddy you’ve told me a lot about yourself right there.

Wayne has not said he was available and willing. The only time I saw him there he was playing someone else.

As to the SM regulars who, now that I’m 2,000 miles aways, are suddenly so eager to play: I know the woman you’re speaking of. Most times she plays on a table near me in the back. But like I said, I try and not pick on “civilians." BUT if what you’re telling me is that she will play, I will make a point of asking her next visit. Same for the two guys who were playing each other and whose game I did not want to interrupt. Tell me their names and I will be happy to put them on my ever growing list. Or, at the very least tell them to not be so shy and ask me to play -- I can be very accommodating on that score.

I did not come up to Danny in Tunica and if that’s what he told you he was thinking of someone else. I was sitting across from him in the bar at 31 minding my own business when *he* spoke to me and asked if I was a pool player and said he’d never heard of me, so I told him about some of the tournaments he might have seen me at. From my SB Trip Report: “I will share one quick story from dinner with Danny and Al. They were sitting across from me at the bar and we were all enjoying some pretty fabulous cooking coming out of the kitchen and Danny asked if I was a pool player. And I said, “Yes.” And he asked, “What’s your name?” And I replied “Lou Figueroa” and he said, “Never heard of you.” And so then I started talking about being at the US Open One Pocket tournaments up in Kalamazoo and the Louisville DCC at the Executive West, and listening to Danny on Accu-Stats, and how Al is always sitting front row on the tapes in his trademark white Panama hat, with his wife Marsha always at his side (who passed a few years ago) and suddenly Al said, “”You’re the guy with the three-piece cue!”

Lastly, it’s good to see you weasel out of playing me by telling me to not come back. But just so you know: there was never any single itty-bitty part of me that thought you’d ever actually play in the first place ;-)

The way the tables are set up in that room is just completely brutal for an out-of-towner. I'm sure pro-speed players have the talent and can adjust, but for the average guy it is a huge disadvantage. But, whaddayagonna do.

And thanks for the offer to steer. I'll let you know next time I'm around. Maybe we can go pick on Jay.

I guess I will have to go there to see you. You NEVER come down my way! You've got action all day long at 20 a game, Eight Ball or Banks. Ha Ha
We did have some long sessions a few Summers back. I haven't forgotten. We played for ten or twenty a game and you told me to give you my best game and I did. :)
P.S. I loved that pool room in your old house. What a perfect place to play that was! I swear I would have slept in there in a sleeping bag, I liked it so much. Remember that Bank pool game with you and Max against me and Bobby. I was zinging 'em, wasn't I?

I will let you know, Eric. It'll be the first action I've ever had there AND IT ONLY TOOK 21 VISITS (ahem).

I'll let you know.

And if it's the older blonde woman (the only woman I've ever seen playing there) -- she has been on a table, in the back row, at least four or five times, one table away from me. Where she plays when I'm not there, I have no clue. Maybe she just thinks I'm cute and wants to get close :-)

All day??? You have a bad back. Im going to see the doc about mine. Do you think we can stand it?? Good thing we got a good chiropractor in the house. Cheers!

all day for me is 3-5 hours, typically 3-4. I never have had stamina for pool, even when i was 19 i couldnt do it. When i was 32 in the best shape of my life, 6 hours of pool and i'm shot-more mental than anything, i lose concentration. weak i know but its the truth.

I have always admired guys like Bartrum and Artie and Monk who can play 50 hours and be strong as ever. I wish i was one of those type of players. I read books and meditation to try and get there , cant do it. $$$ helps me focus better.

Check yur PM i'm ging to send you my phone number ring me and lets make a game. i been looking for a banks game in LA for a long time. Jay is gone often and we live far apart-I tried to get a $10/rack game with Rich and he wouldnt play 6-4 my scratches dont count( I cant make intentional scratches -honest effort rules) he wouldnt play me. I think he has the best of it, he has to out bank me 2-1 to win and on the front table i believe he does bank 2X better than me, on the other 2 tables i mite have a chance to get out even.

Full rack he would rob me, i dont know full rack as well as short rack baks, i like 11 ball banks the best. Freddy the Beard showed me that game and robbed me, lol, he had a flash back he said, my ass-he still plays great!!!!

I like $20 pool, even with the worst of it, i like expensie pool if its a fair game. I just dont always bet big, thats not the truth at all, i perfer bigger action but it just ait there.

Lou, i'll pm you my number too call me anytime.
