Which cue do you play with $$$$

Eric,

That's an interesting comment and i'll have to agree with you, especially in the world we live in now. It's depressing to listen to the news and it seems like every day there's something bad on the news.

A cue is a tool. No different than a set of mechanics tools, or a set of golf clubs. Would you have your car repaired by a person with broken, or worn out wrenches? Can your golf game improve by using inferior, or mismatched irons and woods? Get the best cue suited for what you entend to do with it. If it costs a couple of grand then so be it. Full speed ahead!

I play in a local 9 ball and an 8 ball league and I just can't bring myself to use a $3K cue in the locations that we play the league matches for fear of something happening to my cue. I ended up buying a S/P style cue to use in the league play and it plays fine, but i'm questioning myself on why I own a couple of more expensive cues if i'm not going to play with them.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or maybe you are in a similar situation with high $$ cues that you own?

i think it's just me but i won't own a cue that i won't play with. if im going to a pool hall i use my gilbert (higher end ivory joint and 6 points) if i'm going to a bar i normally use my Gilbert j/b. that might change when i get my BCM but until then that's just how i roll.

don't buy anything you won't use!

My original player went way up in value so I asked an up and coming cuemaker named Murray Tucker to make me a cue. That cue has gone to a lot of bars and pool halls since and been my main player for about 6 years. If I ever get it refinished I may have to start worrying about using it, but for now I dont worry at all.
 
I play with my Mottey almost everywhere. I do have a modified sneaky pete when I use when play in local bar room tourneys. No point in using a several thousand dollar cue on a bar on coin-ops.
 
I used to play with my cheap Dominiak with a tiger shaft. Just switched to a plain coccobolo Carolina with OB1 shaft. To be honest with you it's an easy choice not having to worry about dropping the cue by accident or having someone walk off with it. Besides, anyone can buy an expensive cue still takes a player to make it dance.
 
I play with my Josey It's worth about $1,500. I keep an eye on it, and I my buddy keeps an eye on our cues if I go to the can, or talk with someone. I don't worry about someone stealing my cue, or my Rolex, which is worth about 10 cues. I am not above beating the crap out of anyone who trys to steal my shit! Mr friend Mr. Beretta feels the same way!:eek:
 
I paid 3800 for my custom Joss Im going to get every penny out of it why pay so much for a cue if your not going to to use it. My cue came to me while i was in Iraq And i brought it on missions with me to Other bases to play pool with it.

My Joss is a combat proven cue I even brought it on a blackhawk helochopter to fly to a diffrent base. It lived thru 130 + degree's Its been around to some of the roughest places in the world and im not worried about bringing it to a crowed or ruff place.

I guess what im trying to say is no cue is built to last for ever you cant take it with you when you die so you might as well enjoy it while you have it and push it hard.
 
I play league with my JossWest, but I don't take it to most pool halls. I get distracted too easily to take a chance at losing it.

my reasoning behind that comment, is my body is more important than any cue EVER, So if somewhere is so bad I wouldnt take my best cue there I sure as heck wouldnt put my body there.

There are places I go that I wouldnt take a cue, but they are not pool related. For example, a concert thats packed with bodies-a cue would get smashed up, but its not a pool event anyways.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. If I'm somewhere that I'm uncomfortable having my cue in I've got to ask myself what am I doing there to begin with.

My player is a reasonably expensive cue and I really don't have any problem taking it anywhere I would care to frequent. I don't play in bars so that issue is not in play for me.

I don't normally travel with an expensive cue. I have a low end McD for that purpose. I just don't want to have to worry about the airline losing it, causing damage, or having it otherwise disappear in transit, nor do I want to be concerned it may disappear out of my hotel room. I also don't care about the McD being locked in a hot car trunk all day while I'm working.
