Singles or doubles. I myself like singles because if you lose you can't blame anybody but yourself.

I shoot pool to learn and win. I don't care if she is hot or not. My wife would kill me if I tried something

Singles

I like singles better but when my friends and I are goofing around we will sometimes play scotch doubles. That's a fun game and makes you plan for your partners strenghs. Good times.

How do you play

You alternate shots even when you make a ball. So I would shoot and if I make a ball it is my partners turn and if he makes a ball it's my turn so you are always playing. You don't just sit and watch your partner run through all the balls. It makes it more fair if you have one guy who is just awesome and one guy who isn't as good and the better player can't just run through a whole rack.

Yer an idiot.

Once again a learning or constructive thread gets infected by the cplayer virus.

I am really surprised you (cplayer) know any game of doubles. Who can put up with you long enough to play even one game?

From the sounds of things he knows alot about nothing. One game is all he knows. Bashing. Around here we use tar and feathers for those kind of people. You know something he bashes people and then gets offline. Sounds like a coward doesn't it.

Wow, the moment I saw the title to this thread, I was going to put down Rattlesnake Pasta from Pizzeria Uno's. I'm so disappointed.

You are a very funny person. At least you have a sence of humor. I can't say that about your taste of food. lol

I prefer singles myself. But I have a buddy that grew up playing pool with and we always did well partnered up in any game. We knew each other styles, strengths, etc and very complimentary to each other. Not saying would couldn't be beat, but won plenty together.

Now on the other hand, I had another friend who is a solid player, but as doubles, we couldnt win to save our lives! Different styles, different everything and it showed. Soon as we stopped playing doubles, we were back to winning. Took awhile to realize this unfortunately.

For a party here at the house, scotch doubles or even scotch triples allows everyone to play much more. Depending on how many play, a game of 8-ball can take a very long time. Usually, the alcohol levels the playing field a little. ;) :D

Singles. I've been in too many doubles matches where one of the players wanders away to the jukebox or to talk to a friend, get a drink etc. I hate having to send out a search party just to continue the game. However Scotch Doubles might help fix that problem.

You are missing out on a potentially big popular ticket!

When the singles tournaments dried up a little - you know how that goes - the favorite is always winning - I dreamed up a Scotch Doubles format with a modified APA handicapp grid for 8 ball.

For example, if a 7 and a 2 were paired together, they may only have to win 2 games where as a 5 and 5 may have to win 3 games. Unlimited couching limited to one minute intervals really made this game popular as the lowly players could learn one hell-of-a-lot.

The field was 1/3 women APA players as they had been itching to get in a fair tournament. The matrix was bent to favor the lower players so that if two strong players matched together really had to play all out to win.

This was a million times more fun than the singles tournament. Good for the pool hall and good for your pocket if you won. Good for acquiring new friends. Good for acquiring new free knowledge.

Singles. Doubles are good for a beginning player. It really helps a new player to get advice and improve their game. Other than that if the players are real strong you many not get many turns at the table.
