Which game do you like the best, 9 ball, 10 ball, 8 ball, or 1 Pocket/14-1? And why?

I grew up in Pasadena, Texas. All we had was the old Pasadena Recreation Hall for a pool. They had 5 Snooker tables and 4 run down 4 x 8 pool tables. Every one played Snooker. Then in 1959 or 1960 when they made 9-Ball legal in Texas. Pool Halls sprang up everwhere. I love to play 9-Ball. But the old way, spot a ball if you scratch and shoot behind the line. Buddy Hall's way. I play 8 Ball in the Bars. Blut I don' really like it.

1. 9-Ball
2. Snooker
3. 8 Ball
4. Sunday afternoon, 3 Ball or Kelly Pool.

8 ball
9 ball
One pocket is fun to watch.

Love rotation and equal offense or 300
I don't get straight pool yet.

9 ball was illegal to play????????????????????????
You need to explain this please.

It's always been 9-ball, but recently (past year or so) I find myself wanting to play and learn 14.1.

They are all beautiful games when played at a high level, Lock.
The only games that I DON'T like are 7-ball, golf on a snooker or pool table,
and call-shot 10-ball, with or without the 'option.

Hey double hemlock,
I knew I would find you! But you were never lost! He, He, He. How goes it?

As I watch more 1 pocket, I'm gaining more understanding and respect for the game. However, I've only played the game once in my life

I prefer 9 or 10 ball. I don't have to labor about what shot to shoot. I like games where you either pocket the lowest number ball or play safe. Bar table 8 ball is my least favorite game, but I can tolerate it on a 9ft. The other games bore me to tears, but part of is because I really have limited knowledge in games that are not played in rotation. I do enjoy watching great players play one hole and 14.1!

Even though my high run is an embarrassing 30 balls, 14.1 is my favorite game because it has all of the elements that are necessary to play all of the pool games.

It will give you some of a lot of other games when you watch it played. Good post.
Thanks.

14.1 for me... its the most challenging game and it makes every singe one of the other options so much easier to play.

14:1 Enjoy it because it's a multi rack game. Can be a runaway or go down to the last shot. The fun of catching up and taking the lead. The beauty of the game itself.

1 Pocket... Great game. Find a shot. Create a shot. Play that well executed safe. Run a few balls. Also learn some new cuss words from poorly played moves.

My game of choice would be 8 ball. Has it all - you need shot making skill, position play, and strategy. Plus the plan changes if you get a little out of line. In 9 ball, it's mostly position play. Shoot the 1 and then the 2, etc., etc. I grew up playing straight pool way back in the late 40's and early 50's. Great game which requires a lot of concentration. By the way, this is a good post. Enjoyed reading the comments and opinions.

THis should be a poll.

10 ball, i like rotation games and 10ball is the king now. sorry 9 ball.

One pocket is my favorite game. I also like Golf on a 5 by 10 and 3 cushion billiards.
