Which is better -- run two racks in 14.1 or one rack in 9-ball?

Probably my biggest thrill in pool is smashing the rack in 14.1 after having left a perfectly placed break ball. Yet running 30 is always out there for me, whereas picking my way through a 9-ball rack is much more elusive.

But that's just my game, I think. What about yours?

Depends on what you play.

I run racks playing 9ball all the time, often several in a row, but have never ran 20 playing straight pool.

Running two racks of straight pool is more difficult. I know good 9 ball players that can run 40 balls playing straight pool.

No Contest

Running two racks in straight pool is considerably tougher, IMHO.

Running 2 racks of straight pool is more satisfying for me. I feel that the 9-ball rack can be run absurdly easy depending on the layout, so the luck of the break is a big factor. In straight pool you earn every rack you run, yes some are easier than others but you still have to earn it in my opinion.

Being able to run two racks of straight pool is better than being able to run one rack of 9 ball.

Well, I agree with the others that 2 racks of straight pool is tougher. Therefore the straight pool option should be more rewarding, in theory.

My situation is different. I ran 34 in straight pool one time, but there was so much luck involved it completely ruined the experience. I haven't gotten past the second rack in straight pool since then (several months). Its kind of like just firing a ball into the rail and hoping it goes in somewhere. If it does find a pocket, it is not really rewarding because it was just random luck and nothing more.

Every now and then I run a rack of 9 ball that just feels solid and well executed, as if I was in control the whole time. It is those racks that really thrill me. So at this point I will have to go with that as my answer. As I get better, I'll probably start feeling the same as other posters who appreciate their straight pool runs much more.

in straight pool unless the rack is blasted open, the run out requires a lot of planning and thinking with good position play thinking many balls ahead.

in nine ball you can get a little out of position on every shot almost and recover with good shot making.

Definatly running 2 in straight pool lol. I never play straight pool ( I should ) but its funny because my highest run in straight pool is 32 ( lol horrible I know ) and the most racks Ive ran in 9 ball is 4, which is also equal to 32 balls....hmmm is it a coincidence...well actually it was 6 but I made two 9s on the break so I dont count them as part of the run outs

I'll even take a one rack run of 14.1 over one rack of 9 ball.

For some reason I've had runs in 9 ball, 8 ball and even cribbage, but not straight pool. Every time I get close to running that first rack I get so nervous because I just want it so bad that I choke.

Two rack of 14.1 is much harder than one rack of nine ball.

Play ten racks of 9-ball and count how many B&R's you get. Then try ten times to run two racks of 14.1. It's not even close IMO. Johnnyt

you're name's 9ballpaul. you have no problem running 30's in 14.1 but running a rack of 9 ball doesn't happen that often for you?

you should change your name to 14.1continuouspaul.

imo running 30 in straight pool is way cooler and requires more skill. if you're not running racks in 9 ball it could just be the 1 being funny after the break

it definitely takes more skill and knowledge to run 2 racks of 14.1 than it does to run 1 rack of 9 ball.

John Schmidt, for one.

Also, it's not always just about the money, nitwit.

In most cases <99%> it IS about the money. If Chris learned it, he'd be harder to beat than most because of toughness from gambling. IMO

Voodoo~~~is sure Dennis Hatch will play 14.1 for the dough too
