I ordered some moori's off the web and they are significantly different than the others I've ordered. I took pictures of the front and back of the packaging. The pair on the bottom is the new pair, the pair on the top I've had for a few months. Is one set fake or did they change their packaging/tip logos?

Believe Atlas Billiards Supplies sell the Real Morri's, and they had the BEST Pricse on them.
The last Moori tips I bought were packaged like the tips on the top of your first photo. I have noticed that the newest Moori tips seem a little firmer than the 2nd generation Moori tips. I use the Moori slow tips and the 2nd generation tips seemed softer than the ones that you buy now. I like the new ones, but they seem firmer to me.......ndakotan said:

In your first pic the top ones are fake...they don't have the little goldish dot in the corner of the packaging. The second photo it looks as the bottom tips are fake...what do they say? It looks like they don't even say Moori....plus the package is missing the gold dot as well. Am I correct?
Truthfully, I've seen both of the packages in Japan personally, and although I have heard that there are lot's of fakes being pumped out of China and Taiwan, Moori has also been known to change their stamps and packaging appearances several times over the years without announcement. I've actually seen two differently stamped tips from the same tin can that came straight from Moori. So, before you jump to conclusions about getting fake Moori tips, remember that (in Japan at least) they've always been known to change up their packaging and stamps. Not to say that there aren't any fake ones out there, Moori has also added to the confusion with all of their changes. Best thing to do would be to buy from a well known and trusted buyer that gets their stuff directly from Moori or a trustworthy Moori dealer directly from Japan because from what I know, the fake Moori makers aren't targeting Japan.

The first photo shows the back of the packages, the second shows the front in the same order. Looking on the web, it seems they have adopted the logo where moori is outlined rather than written, which would make sense that the bottom ones are the newer packaging.
EDIT: THE TOP SET HAS THE GOLD ON ONE SIDE AND THE BOTTOM SET HAS THE GOLD ON THE OTHER. THE BOTTOM SET SAYS MOORI IN OUTLINE FORM (transparent on dark ellipse).

I was wondering the exact same thing. I have both as well. I ordered both sets from reputable dealers so I'm sure they are both real I think the bottom ones are the new stamp. I havent played with the newer ones but I know the ones on top work well for I have sold many and had no complaints.
I doubt the bottom tips(pictured) are Moori's. There is nothing in the packaging and stamp on the tip that indicates it is a Moori.
Even if Moori does change their stamp and/or packaging, the name Moori will always be there. No one takes out their brand name on a product. Marketing 101.

I've seen Mooris without the Moori stamp in Japan. The guy that makes them is rumoured to be a very grumpy businessman that falls behind on orders frequently. He's been known in the past to change packaging, put tips out that aren't stamped, and in some cases, put out inconsistent tips due to rushing. Don't know how he or they do their business these days, but back in the late 90's, this was the case. The place I worked for stopped dealing them, and I haven't used a Moori since, so I wouldn't be in the know about recent practices.

The top ones were introduced around December 2006 with the new packaging. If anyone follows our website, they would know that we were the first to introduce these new packagings back in December 2006. Together with that new-packagings, there were "reading glasses" given to dealers that can identify these real Moori's. For example, I gave Joe Blackburn (one of the best cue-repair guy out there) one of these "glasses".
The bottom tips were just recently changed last month, packaging-wise. But if you still have that same "reading glasses" from last year that you can get from your Moori tip supplier, you can see the hologram identifying the Moori tips.

In most of the cases, the color of the leather was the first give away, moori's have an orange tint to them, hards, have a slightly darker orange tint to them. The fake moori's I saw were very dark, even after triming up the tip, no the tip wasn't dyed, or anything like that. also moori's have 9 layers now, most of the tips i've seen are maybe 5 layers, they are the 5th avenue tips, or the "cheap"instroke tips, some people call them this. Or someone past a talisman off as a moori. There are a few other ways of telling, but before going past the color, and layers, most the time I just need to hit with it,
