Which pro player has been playing with the same cue the longest?

In the Feb 2005 issue of Inside Pool on pages 62-63, Thomas Engert says he still shoots with the McDermott he got in 1988. The shaft was 13m when he bought it, it's now 11.3m!
I saw that article also, it was ared mcdermott. I saw now or i mean as of now he uses a predator z shaft. it only took 20 years to get the shaft down to where he likes it since the z shafts are around 11.5 as well lol:eek:

I have him beat - I've been playing with the same McDermott cue since October of 1984 - I still have the original shaft.

(Edited - FWIW, Thomas has his own line of cues with McDermott)

Two Californians come to mind.
Ernesto Dominguez I think has been playing with the same Tad for decades.
Kim Davenport has been playing with his Gus for decades . He did play with Meucci for a while until the checks stopped coming ( I heard ).

Kim used that Szam from 83 until last year, could have been 84, but i'm sure its 83, I wonder how many miles that cue has traveled and how much money has been won and lost with it. It has 5 shafts several are more worn down than shanes shaft and not from sanding but from play you can tell by the feel/taper the wrap I think is original. Its a piece of history for sure.

So what happens when they both need to use it at the same time??

LOL...I knew that was coming when I read my post.:D
Funny they both still used them long after the "paid to" stopped.;)

Earl Strickland has been playing with a Cuetec (main sponsor) since about 1990 up until this year...

Mrs. Loree Jon Jones & Jim Rempe have played with the same Meucci for the past 20 yrs.:)

As Loree Jon is no longer in the area, I'm not sure she still plays with Meucci. According to Sammy, she is in the California area pushing "a line of cheap cues", unquote.
I don't think Loree Jon or Rempe have played with the same cue for 20 years. I know Loree Jon had several and I think Rempe played with a couple of different ones after his signature cue was sold.

Thomas played with Cuetec for few years in mid 90's when he was sponsored by them.

That thin shaft is not Predator Z, but it's McDermott's own low squirt shaft.

I wonder for how long Efren played with his 13$ (or 9$, or whatever..) cue. I know he had Meucci there in between, but it might've been long his 'main' cue anyway.

I have been looking over some of my old accustats tapes and was just looking at how the pro's change cues. I was just curious who you think is the player who has shot with the same cue the longest, and to boot list the maker of the cue.

I hear Shane has shot with his joss since he was a little kid..but looking at my old tapes... Shannon the Cannon has played with the same black and white cue for a long while.?

Actually, if by shane you mean SVB, he plays with a diveney. At least that's what he told me about a month ago, said he likes it a lot.

He has a Diveney and he has the old Joss, but he played with his Schon cue last time we saw him just a month ago at the TAR Action Challenge against Alex.. The Schon cue had the Joss shaft.

Fred

Steve Davis played with the same cue (a Parris snooker cue) forever I have a video of him playing The Miz around the mid eighties (just a guess on the time frame)

I think Grady has been using the same cue for around 84 years now... if I remember correctly he purchased it when he was around 16 for a quarter.

Grady has played with more cues than I have owned;)

well... i would think most pool players have played with more cues than you have owned, unless you've owned like eleventy thousand cues. :p

I heard rodney had a showman but he played with the szamboti at SBE. Shane also had a different cue at Sbe I believe. I know it wasn't the " shane" cue he played with before. I also know tommy Kennedy just got the southwest a few years back. He wanted my mottey but wanted to trade 3 cheap cues. Finally I ran into him and asked what he picked up and he said a sw. He said the mottey was the best hitting cue he ever played with but wouldnt give me 1400$. LOL. That was about 4 years ago.

In an inside pool article he said he switched to the predator z. Lol whatever it is it looks like a pencil:eek: . I have an old tape of a tuxcedo tourny from the late 80's where he plays Keith and they talk about efrens $13 dollar cue and show a pretty good close up of it.

On that same tape i have the ( and i wonder how many people know this or have heard of it) The FIAT challenge between Steve Mizerak and Steve Davis, they play straight pool, nine ball and snooker. On the tape i have is only the 3 games of straight pool to 125.

ALSO on that tape is the infamous match where Jean Balukas gets fined and decides to not pay it and quits the tour. She is playing Robin Bell and she makes the nine on the breaj and s##ts the nine in and Jean goes off.

THe tape was taped from Espn years and years ago by my Dad and is watchable but not the greatest quality.

I only meant that every time I see Grady, he's playing with a different cue. I've only owned/played with about 30, I guess.
