I have spent most of my life in Alaska. I plan on retiring in a couple of years and driving around the rest of America. A friend lives in Michigan and there seems to be lots of players there. What other state is big on pool? I like a 9' table.

Northern suburbs of mpls MN

You will have your hands full in mpls area...cold as hell and not much else to do but play pool...pool hall in almost every city in that area...

A lot of youth picking up the game out there too.

georgia has quite a few and the atlanta area has a bunch of good rooms. just throwing my 2 cents in

It is cold during the winter...I will give you that.(although it was 90 degrees in march last year) There is more to do then play pool...that is why i suck so bad.:) We do have some good young players, but I think some other areas have more then we do. Maybe not better, but more.

You can try Louisiana, this state has a lot of pool halls. Including the Worlds pool hall, Buffalo Billiards. In New Orleans/Metairie Louisiana. Several tournaments a year. Buffalo Billiards, has 2 free tournaments a week, and 1 first Saturday of the month $20.00 entry fee 9 ball tournament. The 2 free tournaments are Tuesday 9 ball handicapped tourny, and a Friday One pocket tourny. Did I say both weekly tournys were free entry.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

I'm from the NW but heard a lot about guys from Ohio wearing white t-shirts being equivalent to playing someone from the Phillippines. :P

Louisiana! We have some great players here. Plenty of gambling. Pro tournaments a few times a year, and the big white diamonds tourney.

Apa leagues are also strong here.

I'm talking about high end players, a lot of really high end masters players from there....and what else is there to do there? Lol...that's why I moved

Not enough snow to ski...
Not cold enough to drive trucks on lake to icefish...
Not warm enough to enjoy boating/swimming much more than like 30 days outta the year...
Gets too cold to ride motorcycle long distance, 60 degrees nights in summer,...
So...............what's there to do? That's why everyone is a work a holic there...that's where I got my 70 hour a week work ethis from which I currently employ:cool:

Ok, just bustin your chops, I still like MN, just don't want to live there anymore, beautiful state, especially brained lakes area. That's my favorite area there.

Good to hear from fellow mn'er. Take care

Ohio

Ohio has a lot of top notch players ........... and they will put the cash $$$ in play ........

Driving

Drop down to Southern California. Really strong players hang out there, then stop by Las Vegas and try out the shooters living in sin city. You will also want to work your way through Oklahoma, Kansas City, St Louis, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Georgia, many spots in Florida, then you can work your way up the East Coast on Highway 95 through the stops until you get to NY.

Then head for Pittsburgh,, Detroit,, Jackson Michigan, Chicago.

It may take you 3 months, if you play very well then check Billiards Digest for tournaments in 2013 that will help you determine which route to take.

GOOD LUCK.

I've played all over the U.S. and Europe...North Carolina has always impressed me the most. NY and CA are good, too, but there just seems to be a higher concentration of A level players and beyond in NC. Cost of living is better there, too.

have you even been here??

1. Lutsen and about 15 others all over the state http://skicentral.com/minnesota.html

2. uhhh WHAT??? lakes are covered in trucks and houses for almost a month now.. and it didn't even really get cold until this week

3. we had 65 consecutive days over 80 and 35 consecutive days over 90 just this summer

4. see 3.. more bikes than cars on small state highways for 4 months a year..

and back on topic.. just about every small town has a pool league of 50 or more people.... and almost every county has a masters league with guys who play well enough to beat just about anyone on earth in a short set...

I drive a truck over the road and play in many places but Florida has more pool rooms and higher caliber players plus many pros live there .. hands down Florida.

+1

That's why I don't go out at night. Players come out of the wood like termites here. Or out of the water like crawfish...

There is not to much in Columbus Ga, but there are a few monster barbox players and a super monster barbox player. Q-masters has strong players but thers are alot of strong players in the state of VA.

 Are you talking bars with pool tables or actual halls?

IMO NC had the lions share of elite at one time
Earl and archer have moved now so I don't really know
Ohio has a strong batch of road players and Kentucky has the bank champions. It's really hard to pick one state
