LOL...the other 2 would have to be sad or sorry.
I spent 2 years travling for work playing people all over the country for the cash... Don't waste your time in Colorado or Lousiana... Best places IMO are Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio. Chicago has a ton of A- and higher players, and everyone is willing to gamble. The road players don't come here for no reason.
We've got one guy here in South Dakota that will literally play ANY ONE in the world for ANY AMMOUNT. Out side of Shane, not much for world class players.
I've been told to watch your step in Ohio by pretty much every one. It also sounds like Buffalo billliards is pretty salty too.

yeah that's why i threw in the atlanta part. i mean we've got everything from pro's like johnny archer, kim davenport, and sean putnam over at marietta billiard club. form there you can look to the a level players like paul song, jeff crawford, jeff hooks, clay fisher, david cantrell and whole mess of others. if you want to gamble guys will lay money too, jason kirkus comes to mind. and we have characters you can't beat like death ball, anger white. for rooms you have mr. cues, marietta billiard club, cues billiards (owned by some poker playin type people
) we also have strong women players too, monica webb, line kjorsvik(sp?) and some other stromg women shooters. if you want tournaments we have open and amateur events constantly. last but not least you never know who's comin through on the road. tedder, scooter, danny smith, john drew hager.this is just the people, places and events that come off the top of my head.
to the people who said florida i think you should qualify that with central to north florida becasue i've been in south florida for a few months now and i'm not seeing anything like the atlanta area.

I agree. Pretty much anywhere on the East Coast -- with concentrated pockets (if you'll forgive the pun) in certain areas of NY, NC, FL, GA, etc.
And, because the OP mentioned it and it's important to him -- specifically in the northeast US, it's big table country up here. Anywhere else in the country -- especially in the midwest -- then the definition of "strong player" takes on a different meaning, with "9-ball on bartables" entering the picture.
I agree with WestPoint and KoolKat -- NC seems to be a hotbed of really strong players.

Chicago is a 1 pocket and banks town.... You don't play either of those games on tiny town.
I'm moving to San Diego in the spring. Not sure exactly where-looking around La Jolla, Mission Beach, few other places.
What are some must-go pool halls down there Mark? Who has regular tourneys? Always love action too of course..

That's not skiing...it's desperation...

Ahhhh #4... 4 months a year use doesn't justify spending 20-60k for a motorcycle to me...and you know even during the 4 months, the nights are unbearable for at least one of those months.
Let's see...CR BILLIARDS, Jimmy Wetches pool hall, university Billiards, biffs, ...just to name a few...all within 10 min of each other... all in ONE SUBURB of mpls. All with at least 20-30 tables each.

College billiards and OnCue billiards are the two players hangouts in San Diego. OnCue is in La Mesa, and I'm not sure what town College is officially in. College is owned by arguably the best 3 cushion player in the world, one of if not the best.
Louis Ulrich plays out of OnCue. There are many A level players that play out of San Diego but most rarely compete far away from home.

Ak Guy...Okay, here's the only real answer. Which states have the best players?...ALL OF THEM! Having crisscrossed the country a hundred times over the past 20 years, I can guarantee you that you will find great players in every state in the country. They may not be in the big cities...they may not even be in the poolrooms...but they are out there. They might be 16 or 60...they may own a cue (or not), play in tournaments (or not), or gamble (or not)...but they are out there. Anyone who can't find someone better than them simply isn't looking hard enough! LOL

You said a pool hall in almost every city... Those are all on the northern end (and as you say all in one city). Southern end we have very few choices. Basically Shooters, Farmington billiards, and a bunch of bars. Hardly a hall in every town.
