Which tip??

I have to replace the tip on my cue since it's almost gone. But, I was wondering which one I should get. I want to get a Moori, but I've heard that some people have had problems with them. The other one I was thinking of getting is a Talisman. Haven't heard anything good or bad about them though.

Also, does anyone know of a good place to get my tip replaced in the NYC area? I've heard that Blatts is good, but it's kind of hard for me to get there when they're open.

Thanks

Get a Moori soft.

I've had the following tips on my cues: Moori: soft, medium, and hard; Triangle (med-hard); LePro; Talisman: hard. Of all these, I prefer the Talisman hard tip, as you can really get action on the cue ball easily out of it. The Moori medium and hard are also excellent, although a bit pricey. The Moori soft tip really is slower than the medium or hard, and is also excellent, although I like more action than it gives. As an intermediate tip to start with, perhaps you might try the Talisman medium, and if you can handle it after a while move up to the Talisman hard. Why do I like the Talisman hard so much? Well, first thing is it is very consistent, will really put the juice on the cue ball should you want to, and it will need virtually no reshaping once you get the radius on it that you like. Is the Talisman hard tip more difficult to control than a softer or slower tip? Without a doubt, but you can do so much more with it, that for my time and money and so on, it's the way to go. My two cents worth.

I have a Talisman Med on my cue right now. I haven't miscues since I put it on and it has been disgustingly consistent. I also have a moori soft on a nother cue that I shoot with and I prefer the Talisman. It just seems to get more action. Also the talisman requires less reshaping than the moori. My advice is get the talisman. You will not regret it.

What is the growing rate for a talisman installed around the country? I get mine put on for $20 here in Ohio. Just curious.

I recomend the Hercules med. The only discouragement I get from this tip is that it hardens up after a few weeks.
But It does not de-laminate like allot of layered tips.
Has anyone tried the new Hercules H2 tips?

Hey Celtic...
Does the Moori Soft stay consistant? Or does it harden up after a few weeks and then feel like a medium tip?

The soft I have did not harden a whole lot no. Medium is what I had before and it was not so much the hit I did not like as the fact it glazed after a short time and then would not hold chalk. I constantly had to reshape and tap the thing to keep it it from getting the glass-like appeanace where chalk wont hold to the tip anymore. The soft simply does not do this, the softness of the tip lends itself to chalk holding easier and as such I can dig lower on the cueball for bottom or go farther out to the edge for siding. The negative would be mushrooming but even breaking with my shooter I have to do ALOT less work on my tip to fix mushrooming then I had to fixing the harder tips when they decide not to hold chalk any longer.

I've been using a Talisman Pro Soft on my every day cue for about 5 years. and I'm only on the 2nd tip -- they last great. No mushroom, little if any shaping.
Most of my customers have also converted to Talisman from Moori.
$20 installed is my going rate in Nor Cal.

I recommend Kamui tip. It gets a little harder after a month or so. So, start with the softer rated one.

I suggest you experiment and learn for yourself the differences in tips.

The most important thing to try is a soft, then a medium, and then a hard tip.

Then try the name brands different people suggest, but most important in this area is to try tips made from different materials like pig skin, leather, etc.

And try different tip shapes (dime, nickel, quarter).

May want to do this on a spare cue. This "tip experimenting" can take months and be expensive, but is well worth it in the long run if you are a serious pool player.

BTW - I use a dime shaped Moori (Q) [hard] tip on my playing cue, a quarter shaped Tiger break/jump [very hard] tip on my breaking cue, and a dime shaped phenolic [very very hard] tip on my jump cue.

I agree. The Hercules medium is an excellent tip. So is the Moori soft. Might get a Hercules H2 next time I need a tip.
