Which type of cue and tip is best for high-powered shooting?

Excellent question, let me respond in a way that you will appreciate and understand.

First, this cue, as all quality cues, should be made of wood. But this cue needs to be special so I suggest using the highest quality wood from the best tree possible, in this case the Methusalah tree, Pinus longaeva or Great Basin bristlecone pine. It is believed to be almost 5000 years old. Just be careful not to be too greedy and take the whole tree, rather just cut to the heart wood and take only what you need.
Then you must find the right cue maker and there is only one that is right for this job. George Balabushka. I know, I know, most think that George has passed on but the truth is that he is living in a vegas trailer park right next to Elvis. (Elvis loves to play pool still) Now, the trick is getting George to agree to break his blood oath that he took to never again make such a instrument of destruction. But, I think if you drop Travis Trotters name he might do it. (If that doesn't work just say Fast Larry and it's on for sure)

Now that you got the best wood and the best maker you probably think that it's down hill from here. You'd be dead wrong. The tip is widely considered by most champions to be the most important part. I will tell you this secret only if you promise not to do something stupid like divulge it on a public forum. .................................Ok, since you pinky swore I guess your cool. The leather that the tip is made from must be perfectly tanned, some would say over tanned. The hide must go through a series of stretching and contracting before being harvested so as to add elasticity to the tip to allow for better grip. Where can you get such a hide you ask? There is only one answer for that, it's Christina Aguilera's butt flesh. It has expanded and contracted just enough to give you the perfect hit and has gone through the proper amount of tanning. But act quick, word is, she's knocked up again so the window is closing fast.

The rest is just decoration and will do little to add to the quality of your "High Powered" shots but may be useful as an intimidation factor. So if you want the extra bling try this. Go to Germany and find David Hasselhof, sneak in while he is sleeping and cut off some of his hair. Take this to the same textile mill that Simonis uses and have them spin it into wrap cord and then have George throw that bad boy on the cue for you and BAM you got yourself a cue that will practically make the shots for you.

Your welcome.

This will probably get post of the year. I was rolling and laughing out loud especially at the tip part. I'm still in tears.

Honestly, ya don't know whether to laugh out loud or just sit down and weep:rolleyes:

I'd like Christina's ass on my tip

That's the realm of .30+ caliber, i.e. .33 caliber. Heck, if we're going to do that, why not go all the way out to .50 BMG, the sniper rifle of choice for Navy Seals, and reach out (and set world records for) 2,000 meters? :D

-Sean

That would be overkill on a 500-meter table. But it would work well for snooker.

But Seriously

Now there is some very funny stuff in this thread .. no doubt. :D

But in all fairness to the OP, who may be someone that finds it difficult to hit a table length firm stroke, this can be a legitimate question.

I know a girl who weights about 85 pounds soaking wet, and she finds hitting a firm stroke more challenging than most. Watching her break is as funny as reading this thread.

We all know that a stiffer shaft and a harder tip will produce greater cue ball velocity, with the same speed stroke compared to other equipment.

But hey, thanks for the laughs ..

Welcome back, btw. I know some are going to take this post to be sarcastic, but I swear it's not; could you please post a video of you playing, even taken with the cell phone? You seem to have very strong ideas about how to play the game, which contradict everyone elses, and I'd like to see what a game played this way looks like, just to satisfy my curiousity.

Regarding your question: any normal 13mm shaft is probably going to stand up to most of the punishment you can dish out playing the game. You obviously have to avoid ld shaft with hollow sections and thin ferrules. If you want to go below 13mm, then maybe a euro taper or mixed type taper is the way to go. Or why not a housecue? These cues are specifically designed to be abused. Buy one and have a joint made. If you want to spend money, buy a predator BK, or BK2. Despite being ld, these cues really stand up to punishment (when it comes to shooting shots that is, not throwing around etc) and make excellent players too.

I'm not gonna go into most of the other threads (although they made my day) because you got me interested with that house cue part. I've seen some excellent house cues around, easy to play accurately with and can also dish out tremendous power. Not sure what material they're made of (wood or something more sophisticated) but they're long, heavy and have perfect balance. I doubt those would be too expensive. Sadly, I've seen no similar designs which would include joint. A cue like that would surely be my dream cue, I don't want those light wooden cues most other guys carry around.

And for the tip, I should go for soft or medium?

In my very biased opinion a Hightower Cue with a double pressed Triangle tip is what you want for power pool. If for no other reason than Hightower and High Power rhymes.

On the serious side I have used the term High Power for my Jump Break cues for many year. So that term mainly applies to the break shot. But I am guessing you mean by High Power that it will draw, follow and spin the ball with ease. And if that is the case then I think my cues fit the bill. If you want extra juice on the cue ball put on a High Action ferrule. I rarely try to make the cue have that much action because on todays fast cloth it is hard to control that much power. But back when Mali slow cloth was the standard I played with the high action ferrules.

By "high power" I meant slamming the CB as hard as possible while maintaining most of the accuracy. More like breaking, but for use in-game.

I believe you may be a candidate for the Ultra Low Deflection Magnum, YES MAGNUM, High Technology, "Titanium Tip" by Ram Shot Industries.

I really hate to hijack this thread  but there has been a lot of "ramming" references, and I just wanted to seize the opportunity
and mention my new system DVD called "9-ball Ramming".
Perfect ramming system for players new to 9-ball, advanced players, and it could even apply to APA style 8-ball.
$29.99 + shipping and if you act now I will include my most popular "Speed Up You One Pocket Game" DVD.
Available on Blu-Ray

Johnson. No others compare at ramming.
Always specify a stiff Johnson, and I have never needed a tip replacement on mine, because it is very long lasting..
Over the years it has developed a slight taper roll, but I have lived with it for a long time, with no aiming problems.
