Which Woods Are Ok?

I have been reading about ivory being banned (& rightfully so) also Brazilian rosewood & it got me thinking, I am in the process of saving to get a cue made by Jim Pierce & we have spoke about having it made with cocobolo but now with these bans coming up regarding commercial sale of exotic wood I would like to know if it's safe to go ahead with my cue once I have the $ or should I just change the wood now to stop any headaches before they start.

Also if I choose to change the wood what would give me the same look of cocobolo without possible legal hassles.

stick with the cocobolo. there is plenty around, even though in high demand. You should be fine....

Of course, it doesn't matter what's on the list now.

If you get it built with cocobolo now, which requires no paperwork and isn't regulated, they'll just add it to the list next year, in which case you won't ever be able to sell it or travel with it...

I assume you're saving for your dream cue, not a flipper then you should be safe with your original choices. Life is too short, and if it was me I will always be reminded that I'm playing with a compromised cue.

searching for a professional cue blank, i came across this 1/2 splice.
purpleheart handle, ebony prongs and maple forearm, i can't find a better selection or combination of wood anywhere.

Can't beat nicely figured Coco.

Check into the Machinery Supplies Forum. There are a couple of makers that are/were selling some B Rose Wood as of a week ago.

King wood and East Indian Rose woods are also good choices.

He also has some Camelia RW. If you look at the 2 woods, they are very much alike.

Good call on Kingwood. I do love me some Kingwood.

I know. I have 24, 30" pieces that have been sleeping for approx 5 years now.

Getting close to wake up time.

If you want to be safe, go with bamboo with hedge points. If it's a fancy cue add some Formica inlays!

That should keep everybody happy, and no Cites issues.
