Whippy Meucci Shafts - Really?

DM's on the rampage again, he doesn't like the word whippy but he does like the word systems. What else for likes/dislikes? Thats all it is you know.

Mind you, you need some weight on it to see the difference. Meucci has a long, straight cylinder shape for the 16" toward the tip. They only taper out about 1mm.

Now aren't you the creative genius...LMAO. I can just see you on that table now with your mind working away like Einstein trying to figure out what to do next.
Where is the blackboard with all of the equations?

Seriously, good idea.

I never said that Meucci's weren't more flexible, I now that from all of the shafts that I own and actually play with them and others. I said somewhere in this thread, and I have no idea where now, that they're just a little "SOFTER". That's right Rod...I DON'T like the word WHIPPY...it's not only erroneous....it's plain flat-out STUPID.

As you said Chris...the bending on the shaft still has to come WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF WEIGHT ON IT. In striking a CB NORMALLY (even somewhat hard other than a break shot) how much "BEND" or "FLEX" do you think you're going to get upon impact? As much as a fiberglass pole used for the pole vault to launch someone over the bar??

On normal shots to pocket a ball and get position, you're going to get NONE.
It's still WOOD for Chrissake, not rubber garden hose.

Can a slightly softer shaft be felt upon impact compared to a very stiff shaft?
OF COURSE IT CAN...just like you can feel a soft tip vs. a hard tip.
But once again...there is no "WHIP" and they aren't noodles like the Meucci bashing, ball slamming, ball banging, cue elitists would like anyone to believe.

ANY cuemaker on here could achieve the same thing if they made a taper the same way on their own shafts and it wouldn't be deleterious to one's game any more than an elkmaster tip. It's just a different feel, not all that extreme.

Meucci's have a lot of unique characteristics to give them a "soft" feel. The flat faced joint, soft thin ferrules, plastic collars, solid leather tips, etc. kill a lot of vibration and noise. To me, they are among the most neutral feeling cues. I've always thought they were a good playing cue. They work well for many players.

Every once in a while, I'll get an old cue in (any brand) where the shaft has lost it's resistance and is way too flexible. The shaft may be straight but doesn't "snap back" like it should. There is an extreme of flexibility where a shaft is just no good for play anymore. I don't know what happens to them but they just get worn out, or maybe internally they are broken. Then you get a lot of buzzing and the hit is awful. It's totally unlike how a Meucci feels. They're kind of..whippy. ;)
