Whippy Meucci Shafts - Really?

DM/Anyone know what the difference in the average Pro Golfers score is since the introduciton of Titanium, Computer-designed dimples, ALL the previously-mentioned testing instruments and diagnostics tools, Liquid Metals, Advanced Alloys, Custom Component Clubmaking, Impact Pads, Feel Catridges, Advanced Rubber Grips, and all leading-edge technologies to fully understand Kick Point, Flex Point, Bend Point, Torque, Flex Type, and all other goilf-swing dynamics - COMBINED? Throw in radioactive core balls, unobtanium shafts and computer-modeled swing analysis, and the answer is:

Less Than ONE

Right, DM? Since the mid 1950's, the average Pro Golfers average score has been reduced by ONE STROKE.

It's all about marketing and selling product, not necessarily better golf.

Do you know what the total driving distance is for the leaders today compared to what they were in the mid 50's? Try about 70-80 YARDS!!! It's made ONE HELL OF A DIFFERENCE!!

I made a driver for a long drive pro in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships that hit it 415 YARDS!!! This is documented on a website and on ESPN when they aired the finals...not made up bullshit. AND it was NOT downwind. Don't give me that crap about new technology not doing anything.

The reason why the scoring average hasn't come down tremendously is because they're lengthening the courses every year and every chance they get. The old pros using persimmon woods playing at Augusta's current length wouldn't even break PAR. Are you nuts or living in a dream world??

Hi DM

Welcome back my friend!!! Missed ya you big pussy. How did you get out?
Are you nuts or living in a dream world??

I would like to think I am a little of both!!!

Easy, big guy. I'm well aware the average drive is longer. And I never said that new technology hasn't helped, especially the average Golfer.

You can pontificate about total yards/course, slope rates and changes in course maintenance if ya want. New technology alone does not create better players, regardless of the sport. Having the latest and greatest makes one feel better, which may result in a temporary score improvement.

Didnt you predict that new technologies will soon be introduced into THIS sport, resulting in LiquidWood-Nano-Unobtanium cue shafts? It ain't gonna help how often the average player break&runs - period. It will, however, increase sales for the companies that market it properly.

Just I prefer to hit it 260 down the middle everytime, rather than the occassional 380 yard monster with a bunch of shanks in between; I also prefer to break, make ONE ball, squat my rock and have a shot on the one-ball. A friggin liquid-metal shaft with NANOBOTS correcting my stroke is of no interest to me.

You truly are clueless...absolutely clueless. I have no response or explanation because you'd never understand it, nor would it matter.

WW is annoying, isn't he? LOL

Hey WhiteWolf are you saying you can swing a golf club? How is that possible being that oompa loompas are 3 feet tall? Do you have mini clubs?

Hit it 260 down the middle and you might not even reach the fairway anymore on a PGA course......and likely be left with at least a 210 yrd second shot to a elevated VW bug hood. :D :D

There is no doub't that there is marketing in a lot of products...More and more everyday with the available meadia avenues.

However...Also in combination of better technology...there is also better instruction and training for pro players...Incredible technology to dial in a swing to get optimum effiency....

I will grant you that if as near back as Jack and Arnie and the boys had todays technology they would be better players, but even with todays technology they would struggle to break the ranks of the top 50.

There is much more depth in the game today.... I am hearing the same about pool...

I for one will not shun technology...That would be similar to saying, "I don't want to use email...I am happy with regular mail"......or... "I don't need Aramith balls...I would rather play with clay balls and cloth stuffed cushions"...

Luckily, I still keep that lil' plaid skirt in my bag, just in case I need to hit from the ladies tees.... :p :p

Hey, point taken. Can't argue with that. I just hope this new technology results in something better than a %^*& Predator Shaft!!

I would proceed with caution...I have seen some pretty goofy looking guys that you would think could not hit a golf ball to save thier life that can shoot in the 60s with circa 1985 apex irons.....One guy when I first met him he reminded me of a "wheeble whobble"...(if you remember those)

But...then agian...I also watched (in person) a famous NFL linebacker that was an absolute stud of an athlete "wiff" about every other swing......I really had to fight hard not to laugh at him..... :D :D

I agree...Predator is alot more marketing than it is shaft...(In my opinion)

I have not had a chance to hit with any of these new "smart shafts" or whatever they are named...But when Thorston Homen shelves his current shaft for one...it makes me curious...

Karsten Solheim started with an idea in his garage....Look what happened to the golf club...Now cavity back is a industry standard...(even with forged irons) .........I am pretty sure that's kinda what DM meant by his comments about this new shaft technology......I would tend to think that something like that very well may happen in the next few years...especially if this IPT tour does well and gets pool into a more public eye.

Ken,

Which shaft is this? Is the new one from Bill Stroud? I have heard great things about the Universal shaft and I am considering one in the future.

Thanks,
Koop

I think that may be it...It is a shaft that has no joint screw on it....There are adapters for all different types of pins....I did not get to hit any balls with it, but it sure felt like wood to me...Little pricy for me $240.00 or something like that for just a shaft......At that price it better be good... :D :D

I was told Thorsten uses one now and says its the best shaft ever...(thats what I am told.....ya know..hear say)

That's because there's no such thing as "whippy". It doesn't exist unless it's made out of garden hose.

I'm not even sure if "flexible" is even close to appropriate as a description. I'd just say it's a little softer. How much?? Who the hell knows.

Ok Mr dm,
I have a question for you. Have you ever thought about a high powered rifle and whether or not there is any flex to the barrel?

There is this little thing called harmonic/distortion/balance and it affects rifle barrels, golf clubs, pool cues or any other object with a shaft or barrel or tube. Study it there will be a pop quiz later.

OK, send me your Remington 700 with a flutted barrel.

I keep seeing people post how "whippy" Meucci shafts are. What the hell does this mean...can somebody explain it to me?

Look DM, at your age, I don't have to explain a whippy shaft to you. Since I own these babies and about 100 Meucci whippy shafts, I'm going to just tell you - they have whippy shafts too, OK????

Define whippy and how did you measure it? Is it like a garden hose?
(Great collection!!)
I think you better worry about your OWN whippiness...geezer.LMAO

Geezus...now you're finally starting to make sense!! And yes, the new technology IS BETTER than Predator!!

Btw, back to golf...the technological strides that have been made in golf have been so tremendous over the last decade and a half that it's just mind boggling. It's improved distance and accuracy with the driver more than anything else...just phenomenal!! But least of all to the total hack...it always gets exponentially better the lower the handicap. Fact is, you can't even compare it to a pool cue, it's at opposite ends of the spectrum. If you're going to compare anything in golf to pool it should be in putter technology...there's the similarity in just rolling a ball more effectively. Has it helped? I don't know...I guess it has based on the fact that greens are now stimped between 11 and 13 and they're designed for that. I don't know how good the new stuff would be on 6-8 stimped greens like in the old days.
