Whitey's is said to be closing August 16. This will be his last big tournament and he is adding $1,000.

I don't have all the details yet.

Saturday August 9: 8-Ball $10 entry on bar tables, $1,000 Added, 11AM sign up, Noon Calcutta, Play at 1.

Sunday August 10: 9-Ball $30 entry on bar tables, $500 Added, 11AM sign up, Noon Calcutta, Play at 1.

Whitey's will close August 16.

I'll be there and I hope everyone that can make it will be there to support a great room, a great person, and a fantastic tournament.

Hate to hear that Whitey's is closing. This is a great pool room, the
layout is perfect for tournaments. Hope everyone can support this
tournament. Whitey is a great guy and has done a lot to support
pool. Good luck to him in his future ventures.

Not A Typo

cuaba- 10$ sounds a little cheap for a 1000.00 added? is that a typo?

That is what they said over the phone. I think he is trying to have as big of a turnout as possible for his last tournament weekend.

What a great place to play pool and eat the best cheeseburgers in captivity. That's a shame. Why is it closing? I'm relatively sure they do a decent business. It's shocking.

Jim,
One of his workers had Hepatitis. Over 700 people were potentially exposed. Whitey did everything he could to handle the problem, but business has fallen off drastically.

It's a real tragedy.

Player Limit?

is there a limit on how many players they are taking?

I don't think so. You can call in advance to reserve a spot.

I'm sure everybody would be happy to see you there, Sarah.

It's a great romm!

I think Whitey has a great room there in Burlington, IA!

I grew up playing pool there when I was a kid and it used to be just a neighborhood bowling alley -- lot's a good memories there for sure -- should be a great tourney!!

I went down and played in the tourney yesterday. I shot ok (but out after 4 rounds) I can definitely tell I'm a little rusty since I've only played a handful of games in the last 3 months. Oh well, it was a nice cheap tourney. I spent more in gas $$ driving there than at the tourney itself since I live an hour and a half away from Burlington. I only wish I had a room of that quality in my immediate area. The Burlington area players are going to miss Whitey's for sure.

I think they had about 60 players show up with several Masters and a few Elite players in the field.

Anyone know who won the eight-ball on Sat? Just curious.

Whitey's Staying Open

I was told today that Jesse Bowman won it.

I have also heard that Whitey's will not close on the 16th. The closing was based on a pending sale of the location that fell through.

Since Whitey owns the building and is making enough to cover his overhead (although his business has dropped way off from the hepatitis scare) it is better for him to stay open.

Hopefully he will make it through this unlucky incident.

People will forget all about that incident and realize that it was a one time deal that is over with. Done. They'll come back and a couple of promotions for back to school etc will have him going strong in no time. Very good news. AND.. glad to hear that Jesse did well.

Edit: Is Mark from BOM doing ok? I went down there Sat at about noon, ate and played for a while and I was concerned that the shock of me actually out of the house and in his place might have a detrimental effect on his health. :D
