Whitten case issue

I just need some help/advice/suggestions with a stupid situation I've gotten myself into.

I have a Whitten case and of course use the spacers. I had one of the short spacers in the case with three pads attached. Then I got JPs for the shaft and took the spacer out, peeled off two of the pads and dropped the spacer now with one pad back into the hole.

What I think happened is some of the stickyness from one of the pads I peeled off stayed on the bottom side of the pad I kept on the spacer, because now the spacer is stuck in the bottom of my case and I have no way of retrieving it. I would like to retrieve it because I now need one additional pad on the spacer.

I've tried the spacer stick, I've turned it upside down and banged on the bottom, I've left the case upside down for 8 hours hoping it would slowly come off, nothing works.

Any ideas how I can get this spacer out?

I don't know anything about the case. But from what I understand from your post, depending on the size of the opening. use the stick you talk about or get something thinner. Use duct tape, by first attaching it to the stick, then flip it so the sticky side is out, and make a little ball or whatever you have to do to make it fit.
It might take awhile but I've used this trick before for other things when there's no way to reach them.
Good luck

You could try a smaller dowell with some high contact adhesive or maybe a small bit of gorilla glue to see if you can get it to stick to the spacer to pul itout.

First thought; Super Glue on the stick.

A thin rod to wiggle the spacer around. Welding rod?

Drill through the bottom. Very small hole.. maybe 1/16. Then push it out and fill the hole.

Have you called Whitten?

I agree with Jim S, call or email Whitten about your problem. I believe Whitten is also cueartist on ebay. Please post answer on AZ forum when you get it.

  • Cut a couple of inches off a metal hanger.
  • Take a hammer and flatten one end out a bit.
  • Bend that end into an 'L' small enough to fit through hole in spacer.
  • Tape other end to the spacer tool handle.
  • Now go fishing; you should at least be able to pry it up from bottom of case.

I would try using carpet tape around the rod Whitten gives with case. Carpet tape is double sided and sticks to everything. Just wrap it around a few times and give it a shot.

WOW! Exact same thing happened to me about a month ago. I'm still looking for something to get it out. Super glue remedy seems the logical solution because that spacer isn't budging for me. Duct tape didn't work for me.

fingers

I would try some mechanical fingers. This is a tool that has three or four spring metal fingers that protrude and open up then retract and close. Most automotive mechanics will own a couple of these in different lengths.

It worked.

I just bought some super glue from the store, put some on the retriever stick (Underside of the wooden hilt), dropped it in the slot and pushed it through the hole of the spacer, waited about a minute and pulled it out with a twisting motion. Only bad part is that you can't use that spacer anymore, but hey they gave us extra right?

Thank GOD you didn't try the "drill" method.... ;)

First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for their suggestions.

This seems like the best way to go. My only problem is I was only given 4 of the short spacers and need all of them, so any method that ruins the one stuck is not preferred.

Did it rip the top pad off, is that what happened? It comes off the spacer stick, right, or is that ruined, too?

I may just have to email joe and ask for a replacement. Hopefully I don't have to purchase and entire additional spacer set...

Yes, definitely an awesome gesture, ARM9BALLER. Thank you again.

Good reply Big Kahuna, this approach does no accidental harm to the case, it simply retrieves the spacer... great idea.

You can order extra spacers or sticks from Whitten and they are very reasonable. I use them in other cases also.
