I was asked the other day to make a cue with overlapping butterfly
points. this isn't my cut of tea. I only know 4 cuemaker who can
do this correctly. altough there are a lot of wantabe's and bignames out there who think you just can glue on sum veneers and cut a point over the veneers. there missing the boat. so if you really want a real butterfly cue you should contact one these guys. Paul Fanelli, Billy Webb, Mariposa cues by Kyle Van den Bosch, Barenbrugge cues.

Paul Faneli, Steve Klien.
Arnot makes some nice designs and is reasonably priced in most cases.

I totally agree their are certainly a number of people who make Butterfly cues. But their work can not compare with the work of Paul Fanelli, Billy Webb, Mariposa cues by Kyle Van den Bosch. I have never seen Mr. Barenbrugges Butterfly cues, so I can not comment.

Don't mean to start any rumors, but is Billy Webb still building cues? I heard he was/had sold his equipment. Once again, this is not a substantiated statement, and I don't know this for sure.

Gene, I talk with Billy about once a week. He certainly is building cues, currently he has a number that are almost complete. Most people do not know this but Billy's Technique for making Butterfly Cues is totally different than any other maker. In Bills cues the Butterfly Points completely over lap each other, and his points are perfectly even, with the tightest Veneers you will ever see.

He can be contacted on the forum at his user name, Spiderwebb!!

None of this is a Rumor!!!!!!!!

Have a good day Gene!!!!

If you go to the Cue Gallery Page, there is a butterfly thread. There are some from Billy Webb on there and they are sick. I can't for the life of me figure out how he does that.

Thanks for you input Tony and coming from a Cue Maker with your skills that is a compliment to his abilities.

Billy has been approached by many Famous Cue Makers that asked the same question you did above, and I know for a fact Billy ain't telling!!!! He developed the technique himself, and per the last conversation I had with him it will be his Trade mark.

Billy has not truly been recognized for his talent, and his innovative ability. But those who are aware of his work no that in a very short time his cues will be getting very expensive.

Have a good day Tony!!!!

Here are some photo's of Billy Webbs latest Butterfly cues. Now pay attention to the Butterfly points, and if you think you know how they are made please explain.

Joey, Billy's technique is his alone, and no one else is building Butterfly Splices like Billy's. If you notice his splices go through each other, they do not over lap like everyone else's do. Billy has been asked by many top Cue Makers how he builds them this way, because they can not figure it out by looking at one of his cues in their hands. So I think it safe to say that Billy's technique is certainly a trade secret. The truth be known, currently there is only one other cue maker who can build Butterfly Cues go through each other and that is Paul Fenelli.

According to Billy, there is know one else even close to Paul including himself. If some one thinks that this is not correct, please post some pictures I would like to see their work.

Have a good night Joey!!!!!!

Wow! Those are nice butterflies. The overlapping butterflies technique is not as difficult as one might imagine. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to undermine the ability of this cuemaker. He is a very skilled craftsman without a doubt. I'll have to post a link to how the overlapping technique is done. I found a detailed how to instructional thread about this technique on some woodworking forum. I bookmarked the url in my browser at work.

Please do, many people here on the forum would certainly appreciate it. However, there is much more to it than just making over lapping Butterfly Splices, but even then there are only two Cue Makers that can do it like these. All Billy's are perfectly even, no Glue lines in between the veneers, not to mention how well his cues play.

Dan Dishaw had some nice ones in Vegas BCA

i saw a cbutterfly blank of Fanelli's that everyone was trying to figue out in valley Forge.it appeared to me that the cue had been cut in half twice hroizontally and spliced back together.
