Who can make a difference?

So, we all know that pool players and cue makers struggle to make a difference and a living off the sport. As of today, many feel that the sport can be more popular than what it currently is. Well, I just dug up a story about a pool hall owner that made a huge difference in the sport. I thought it was an interesting read, as it comes to prove that anyone can make a difference. In my opinion, he was very successful in what he did and was able to make pool reach new heights.

Hopefully this hasn't been posted before, but here is the article:

Sadly, pool has lost popularity compared to the 90's. But, who would have ever imagined 10% of the population playing the sport, as well as having a curiculum in most public schools? And most importantly, changing the image of the sport.

Wow, that's an old article from 2004, but there sure is some common sense items in there.

I remember Danny Basavich saying that when he competed in the WPC in Taiwan, he visited McDonald's to eat a few meals. The bags that McDonald's used to package the food had advertisements of the WPC on them. The whole country was in tune to what was happening there.

I cannot imagine me walking into a McDonald's in the States -- which I probably won't because I hate fast food -- and there's a picture of Earl Strickland on the bag. :grin-square:
