so i've been watching some old videos or earl from the 80's, and man i gotta say the man can jump w/ the best of em w/ his playing cue! so it got me to thinkin...from what i've seen, most people can jump a quarter/half ball w/ their playing cue, but alot have trouble getting over a full ball. who do you think was the best jumper w/ their playing cue?

Id say Earl Strickland for sure. Hohman is pretty sporty with the full jump shot aswell

Never had the opportunity to see him play but I guess his nickname explains it:

Jumping Jack Hines.

I heard that he would rather jump at a ball than shoot one straight in.

Don't know if he used his playing cue or not.

Otherwise I would say Earl.

Best full cue jumper

Sammy Jones was the first one I heard of jumping with a full cue and he was outstanding doing it from what I heard.

Earl may be the best, he was awesome. But I would like to name "Machine Gun" Lou Butera as at least an honorable mention.

With his full cue, he has jumped over a rack of balls in a straight pool tournament to a ball past the side pocket and drew the rock back for shape for a break shot below the rack. He set the shot up a couple years later to show me and he made it again with shape. It was the single most impressive jump shot I ever witnessed (full cue or not).

The cueball was near the bottom rail below almost a full rack of balls. There was a loose one below the rack that he used for his break shot once he drew the cueball back. And in competion!

Back in the late 70's and 80's Ermand Bullard from Texas, and (his running buddy,) Gary Seay from Oklahoma were the best full length cue jumpers on the barbox with the "Watermelon" cue ball in the country!

That was back when everyone played two shot roll-out, they would roll out for full cue ball jump shots! Neither one of them very rarely missed the shot, but Ermand was the best I ever seen!

I'm going to have to go with Earl. There are some impressive jumpshots he used to hit with that old Cuetec that I've seen on old Accu-Stats tapes.

I'll have to say I've seen Rafael Martinez make some awesome jump shots with a full cue.

Rafael hit the single most impressive jump shot with a full cue I ever witnessed.

It was back in the mid 90's at Galaxy Billiards in San Antonio. He was playing a tournament match against Bobby Brown. Bobby played him safe on the one ball leaving a table length jump shot with two blocking balls. The cue ball was almost frozen to the end rail sitting right next to the 2 ball which was tied up on the 3 ball.

Rafael walked up to the table and without hesitation, jacked up, and fired at the 1. He speared the one straight into the corner pocket. The cue ball sat still for a second and then ripped back into the side rail and straight down table and broke the 2 ball out for an easy run out.

I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed even after I picked my jaw up off the floor.

Also, Bonehead hits full cue jumps shots pretty sporty. (Oops, did I write that out loud? I meant to say Earl).

Gotta mention Smokey Bartlett. He could jump a ball when the object ball was almost touching the cueball.

It was not the cue he played with. If you picked it up, it was only about 9 ounces. I saw him jumping with a full cue as well and could not believe it, till I picked up the cue then I knew how he was doing it. Best I ever saw was Bill Stegall from Tampa, (sp?) (I think he is dead now). He jumped with the cue he played with and this was back in the early 70's when no one was jumping. He would jump and draw the cue ball back the length of the table.

Earl without a doubt. Get him alone with a full cue and see if someone can fade his jump shots. He's unreal!

way back in the 80's

Earl was the first I ever saw do a jump shot against Steve Mizerak in the old Caesar's Lake Tahoe tournament.....I think it was in the finals and I think he went on to win a $25,000 first prize PLUS a new car ....... I was amazed, never even knowing that kind of shot existed....I think the object ball flew into the pocket, and he continued to run out....

SVB and Putnam are two of todays best but I don't know if they jump any better than Earl, even now.
