re:qualified

congrats on the big win. my buddy rob wofford won the qualifier in columbus... wish you luck...

Will do

Hi Freddie. I always wondered what happened to Jeannie. She attended Pool School many years ago. I always felt she had chance to play great.

Freddie, She's in good hands with you my friend. Please say hi to her from Randyg.

Will do, Randy. Im out of town now. Will talk to her next week.

the Beard

Jeannie followed instructions very well on tournament pool persona, except for when she called a foul on herself. Believe me, she didnt learn that from me!

I played in the Atlanta qualifier this weekend (my first) and hit .500 - won two and then lost two. I've realized that I need to work on building tournament stamina, as well as calming my nerves. It was funny because they seemed to get worse after each win - I thought they would calm!

I had a great time though and got to watch the finals, as I was there for league as well - all of the guys that made it from ATL were great shooters.

I'm looking forward to competing again next year as it was a great time. Congratulations to everyone who made it down to Tampa - shoot well!

Played out of Bill Schick Billiards in Shreveport this weekend , made it to the last match before the finals. Should have played more definsively in the last match ,but got impatient and started going for the nine leaving it hung up in the pocket.
Oh well had a great time and played some really good players.
Congrats to all the ones that made it to Tampa.

Hey congrats!!! What time did you guys finish because I left at 2am and you guys haddn't even started yet? Crazy. I would have fallen asleep on the table.

As for Bruce you're right he was all class. At one point in the match we were waiting for Bob to watch a hit. He knew it was a TOUGH hit and had he foulded it would have ment the match. He turn to me and said, "Hey no matter what happens here this has been a hell of a match and you're a great player." He didn't have to say anything but that's just the kind of guy he is. ALL CLASS.

4am! It was a long hard day on this fat man :o Actually the long break before the finals might have been a blessing for me.

I had fun and played ok. Thats all I wanted. Winning a spot was a bonus.

frankncali do you still live in california?

The guy I played in finals at the West palm qualifier, Micheal Barbagello, was from New Hampshire. He was far from his home too and on vacation I think he said.

interesting how people play far away from home. You had to register a few months ahead to play, its not like you could just show up. My buddy tried that and they gave him the motion denied ruling. He even called up to St Louis and tried to get in late with no luck.

How much money if u win? Oh wait none. Y I didn't go when I found it out. If ur not playing for money congrats but no huge players ain't gonna play for free.

Your wrong there. The field at the US Amateur National event is filled with many great players. Granted no pro level guys, but the field is very strong. All you got to do is check out the us amateur website and look at past champions and see who came in top 8. There are ALOT of good players who have never won this event.

This event is about true amateur talent and I think that is why there is no money... you would then have low level pros and hustlers trying to get a "piece". This is kind of like the Olympics, where all they get is a shiny medal ....but who would not give their eye teeth for one of those? Anyone that is not willing to play the game for the pure glory of it is imo a player with no heart.

Oh and yes, I Q'd in Greenville.. got done just before 2am. Not real happy about cramming a two day event into one day but that just made me more determined to win.

Yeah no real players in any sport would ever play an Amateur event for free...

wait didnt that Tiger guy play a few Amateur events??

While the field may not be Archer and SVB there will be good players there and there have been every year.

Really if every pool player only got into events in which they could reasonablly MAKE money then there would be 10 man events.

Its all about doing something that you like to do and having fun. Neither Disney World nor the movies have ever paid me a dime but I still go and have fun.

Yeah I still live in California or Upper Mexico as it will soon be called

Bruce said he was looking for a change in pace and new players. My first match I played a guy from Nebraska. Met some others from New Mexico and AZ.

Amazing that 11 qualified from ONE event. I wonder how many that they had to have to get that many spots.

Good point Cuechick. I lost out last year in the finals and spent all year working on my weaknesses for this year. I made it this year in a close final match and what a feeling of accomplishment even with no money. Everyone in Atlanta was top notch and the organizers did a great job.
See everybody in Tampa.

This year was my first time trying to qualify and I have to say that I had more fun playing this qualifier than I've ever had in any $1000 added tournament. THere was a feeling of "pureness." I think a lot of time in these money tournaments you get a lot money hungry greedy people that are playing strictly to get paid. In this event it seamed like everyone was there to truely test their skills against one another. As for playing in FL I'm sure the vibe there will be the same times 2. I can't wait. It'll be nice to spend a weekend with a bunch of people who are truely passionate about the game.

Now I'm not saying there isn't talent but your true top players will not show for no money. It takes something else to do it for free especially like living 3 hours away and paying your room and travel with no chance of making money. Props to those that did it and succeded. Good luck with your next tournament.

Congrats to all the ones that made it to Tampa.

I was at Bill Schick's as well and had a lot of fun. Won 2 and lost 2, was out two games before the final for my bracket, I believe. Although I had a lot of fun the event was a little brutal due to waiting times. Doing a 100+ person event with (12) tables in two days is tough. I would have preferred they started on Friday.

However, like I said, I did have a great time and I will be back next yeat. I also met a lot of great people and played a some really good players.

Wow, larsen, richko and choyce were all beat this weekened. Thats three former us amateur champions that were eliminated in the qualifiers. Especially Richko not making it when 11 others did...how did that happen? He must have had a bad draw and bad rolls. That guy plays great.

WOW! I hope my name doesn't get added to that list :(

Here are some players for you :
David Rowell
Ron Parks
Robert Hall
Larry Kressel
Tim Orange
Bill Mccollim
Scott Tollefson
Lance Salazar

and a bunch of the ones listed above never won either. Your really mistaken if you believe the field at this national tournament is devoid of top players.

maybe it's just the ones from south carolina or just road players who make livings off of shooting pool. free don't pay bills son. write that down.

You are probably right, the National Amateur is probably for people who already have a job that pays the bills and doesn't need a few dollars from a tournament to make the rent or car payment.

Given a choice between the two, I am pretty satisfied with my position.

Like I said before congrats if u can do it. Most people can't these days though. I was going til I found out there was no money can't pay 200 for just hotel for the weekend. Just me though
