Who here breaks with their playing cue?

I guess the question is do you play eight ball or ten ball? If so get a break cue.

Not anymore....

I put a Kamui black soft tip on my shooter, and will never break with it. I love that tip.
I carry a Dufferin sneaky pete to break with. It's just like a house cue, only better! I used to shoot with the Dufferin, and break with it, but upgraded my equipment last year.

I have a Diveney w/ Kamui black hard tip on it and have broke with it since I got it 2yrs ago. 9ball /8ball it dosen't matter that cue is one bad a** playing cue. Thanks Pat

One thing i cant stand is a any dings/dirt on my playing shaft. I use a dedicated BJ cue just for breaking. At times I break from the side and have my cue a fraction of the table. With a vilent stroke the shaft flexes and does strike the table. Dents quit often...................... Lucky i don't charge myself for repairs. Frank

One of the main reasons I bought a break cue was to preserve the life of my tip. Its not the extra money in tips so much. Its the hassle and down time in replacing the tip sooner than necessary.

I play with a Rick Howard cue. It plays and breaks great. Nothing else breaks as well. Even when I switch cues from time to time I break with my Howard player.

I always break with my playing cue...I find that just a little inside english, just barely catching the head ball and flushing the 2nd ball gives me a nice spread towards my hole, while if my speed is right the cue goes 1 rail and freezes on the side rail....what? huh? oh my bad! I didn't realize there was any other game worth playing ;)

I have a video of myself breaking and shattering the ferrule on my cue from a couple weeks ago. Pieces of ferrule were all over the room.

I broke with mine until the ferrule cracked. Do not think it will not break eventually.

Not good for the tip either. You can pick up a low end break cue pretty cheap. Or even get an import and put a hard tip on it.

Maybe we should rephrase the question too; Who owns a $1000 cue and uses it to break?

I have only owned one cue in that price range, and I broke with it. It was a Schon, and I went through I think 3 ferrules and was on my second shaft when I sold it (the first one split under the ferrule). I didn't know any better, and broke 25-30MPH with it for a few years. The cueball won.

I do. I have a $1200 Bob Dzuricky:

Micarta ferrule and Triangle tip with a red pad. Break and play all games with this cue. Notice the Ron Thomas 1x2. Accessory cup contains a small piece of microfiber cloth and a cube of Blue Diamond chalk. Never had a problem.

Also, on a side note: An older gentleman in my area still breaks and plays with his 68 Joss; he is a jam up shot. Original ivory ferrules, and never had a problem with it either.

A well made cue, is a well made cue.

I do. I've scratched up the ferrule though, so I'm going to go with a little more control (hopefully) in the future.

I played with a Gus Szamboti for 19 yrs and broke every game i played with it. I had no issues and it had the original ferrel's on it when i sold it and was as straight as the day i purchased it.

Ask any quality cue maker about braking with a cue that they made for you and they will say GO FOR IT!!

At $200 a pop for shafts, I'm sure you are right. They may not admit it, but I'm sure my dentist is ok with me eating all the salt water taffy I can hold, and my car dealer is fine with me only changing my oil every 20,000 miles. ;)
