Who is Jack Hines?

 This thread reads like a movie. If Jack can win the US Open in the next year or two what a helluva movie it would be.:p  I would love to see Jack get back to the way I always heard he hit 'em. I never seen him play in person but his reputation preceeds him for many things.

One of the most entertaining pool stories I've ever heard. The iguana jumps off his shoulder and chases the 9-ball into the pocket. Freaking hilarious. What a character.

Reminds me of FL and Wonderdog...

Tell Jack that there are a lot of people hoping and a-praying for him.

It is one day at a time and one moment at a time. There are many of us pulling for him to stay clean.

Keep us posted as to Jack's journey.
Thanks!

JoeyA

I saw hime in Houston over the weekend and he couldn't sop talking to anyone who would listen that he is off the drugs.

He still though is one weird bird who could duck hunt with a rake. He went into a sumation of his life with my wife and whe finally called me over to get rid of him. The man sees music and hears colors.

The good news that I believe he isw clean right now and has a job selling RV's. He had a few bucks and was drinking a lot, but it was a nice change. I wish him well.

I played him once approximately 17 -18 years ago.He was very respectable towards me and he did not pull his regular stuff on me .The jump shot he executed boggled my mind.In that jump shot ,after it was airborne the cue ball changed the path and curved and hit object ball.

Jack Hynes probably has a higher IQ than anyone on this forum . Seriously, the guy is extremely intelligent . I was also around jack hynes quite a bit in the early to mid 90s .

True Story : One night Jack told me that he was broke but if I would take him to a machine, any change machine he would absouletly rob! I was curious, so he demonstrated for me on a machine . He would attacth a string from the dollar to his fingers and with the speed and reflexes of a cat, he'd slide a bill in just far enough to be read and then he'd pull it out a split second before the machine takes the dollar and bam! quarters . again, again, and again . Lord knows how much money he's stolen from coin machines over the years

These posts have been a fun read and while I do believe Jack Hynes did at one time play quite well, he currently is NOT a world class player. As one poster has mentioned, he is in Houston and has been for some time. Just the other day, Gabe walked into a local poolroom and Jack asked for the 6 playing Nine Ball. Gabe graciously accepted with the poolroom locals staking Jack. When the dust settled, Gabe got the money quite easily.

Yep, robbing quarters with a dollar bill on a string. A true testament to his high I.Q.
I'm convinced.

The first time I met Jack Heinz I did not like him at all, I was with my highschool sweetheart at a tournament in Kentucky in Buddy Hall's home town. I was pretty full of myself and drew Jack in the semi finals, I introduced myself to him politely as we were going to have to play our match in an hour or so and he said if you can beat me you can win some seriouse cash kid. I was wiping the balls down with a clean cloth, Jack grabbed the cloth out of my hand and inspected the towel closely, he asked me what I was putting on the balls and I said "nothing Jack the towel is clean." He then threw the towel back in my face, I did not win the match cause I was so frustrated. I did notice however he had one of the most solid breaks I had ever seen, with an unusual style where whitey jumped high of the table and parked in the middle almost everytime. He told me that if he got the bomb working it was all over.
A few yrs later I met Jack again in Tulsa,OK he was playing well and spotting Gabe Owen playing 9 ball (Gabe was very young), there was that break again and this was before the bike accident. Not only did he have an incredible break he ran out like a wild animal, his style of play reminded me a little of Louie Roberts. He was living on the edge but you could see in his game that he had an incredible desire to play top level 9 ball, I think if you were to ask Gabe if he enjoyed competing against Jack that day he would have said yes and considered a good learning experience. This would have been about 1996, I was the house pro at the pool room known for great equipment and plenty of top young talented players. Jack knew I was the house pro and we played some pay ball on a lightning fast snooker table. While we were playing I noticed he had something moving in his shirt, sure enough after our match I asked him what he had in his shirt. He said OK "I will show you but you must not tell anyone OK" I agreed, from the coller of his shirt an iguana peeked out and Jack said this one's name is Gordy. His girlfriend at the time who seemed nice told Jack that she thought they should go back home, she said they were selling iguanas and living in their car. To which Jack replied just give me 57 day's, Heinz 57 baby and we will be allright then, Jack seemed to take a liken' to me and asked if anyone wanted to buy some iguanas in bulk. I asked him how many he had and where he was keeping them, look at the lights he said. Now this was a nice place with plenty of people and as I began to look around sure enough there was maybe five or six tables where the lizards had camoflauged on top of the green lights. People had no idea that they had a lizard on the light of there pool table light I found this really funny plus Jack loved the lizards probably as much as anything and I think he took good care of them. I asked him why he had them under his shirt and he said they love the heat, and when I play pool my body temp goes up.
Jack was a moody fellow who had some demons chasing him - but show me a top player on the road who does not share some of these same traits and there is a real oddball. Over all I liked Jack and respected his love for the game, no one plays like he did who does not love the game and love showing everyone how well 9 ball can be played. I learned what I could from him and also how life can get hard. I think God shows us people who have unfortunate situations so we can learn from it, I was just too caught up in myself to grasp this concept. He was capable of hitting a major gear and it was a sight to behold when he was on I can assure you. The last time I spoke to Jack I was headed off to church with my ex girlfriend, he asked me where I was going as I was all dressed up. I told him we were going to church he asked me to say a prayer for him and so I did, I hope he is doing well even though I did not like him at first I do think he had some good in him for sure.

anyone that's ever truely known jack hynes would agree with me . The implication was not that this was a "true testament" of anything, what i did was cite an example of the man's ingenuity, but i think u already know that, you're just being a smarta$$ . No harm no foul, i realize that jack is not well liked from the prim and proper pool community .

Joey A. is right, giving ole jack compliments is not a popular thing .

What you did was to cite an act of stealing money from a machine as an example of Jack's high I.Q.
You also offered an opinion that Jack's I.Q. is higher than that of the members reading this tripe.

You said, "Jack Hynes probably has a higher IQ than anyone on this forum . Seriously, the guy is extremely intelligent . I was also around jack hynes quite a bit in the early to mid 90s ."

I think you'd be surprised at the I.Q. of many of the members here at AZB. I am only accusing you of grandiose claims and painting with a broad brush.

Jack Hines (Hynes) is no Kevin Trudeau.... imo

Doug
(hell, he's not even a Fatboy) :)

*Edited to add: After some reflection, I would guesstimate that Jack is not even in the top 20% of AZB's brainpower. However, I will admit that with the influx of new Members in the past year, the average I.Q. here has probably dropped by 50 points and the culprits know who they are. I don't think that they'll 'loose' any sleep over it. :)

It IS true that Jack may certainly have a higher I.Q. than anyone in Louisiana.

What are u doing here smorg? no one believes that my comment on Jack's intelligence was a put down to the members of this forum, u should stop reaching for something that is not there .

Whatever smorg, u are trying desperately to spin this into an arguement . The fact of the matter is this : You do not know the man . Your opinions of him are different than mine and that's that ...

There will be no more talk about Jack Hynes, i know what i said and i stand behind what i said. all of your blah blah blah is borderline arguementative because you are not citing any facts about Jack Hynes( from your own experience ) only biased opinions formulated from others .

Here is the bottom line : You and i see this through different sets of eyes, my perspective of Jack is from personal experience and yours is not (evidently) Nevertheless, this ends my input on the Jack Hynes topic .

Good day..

Edit : Btw, Jack is from ohio not louisiana . Joey A is from louisiana and he probably did'nt appreciate the last remark.

Cannonball55: Please do me a favor. Tell Jack that his friend, Big Marty Sawaya, died. Also, tell Jack that Hoppy bought Marty's book and he is looking for him. He said he might catch a plane for Houston. Must be some serious cash he owed Marty.

Thanks....Tom Gearhart

Jack is a very intelligent guy. I know that when I was spending a great deal of time around him he had an interesting prop bet. He would play anyone a set of nineball and a short chess session if they agreed to use a thirty second shot/move clock for both games. He told me that he had taken a standardized I.Q test and qualified for acceptance into M.E.N.S.A. That is when I told him about the Prometheus society, and the benefits of being a member. By the way the only people who I think had a serious chance to beat him at that prop bet are Danny Barouty, Allen Hopkins, and Efren at that time.

Another funny story about Jack Hynes is:

To the best of my knowledge, he not only never delivered pizzas again, he never ate another one, either!

that is a good story. By any chance do you remember the name of that young female pool player from toledo who also worked as a waitress in Tonyroma`s who fell in love with Jack and left toledo to be on the road with him? That thing happened around the year 1998.

Yes, I do remember. Her name is Kelly S**** and Jack did her wrong. She was only 17 and was (and is) a sweet young lady that Jack turned into a drug addict. Then he dumped her and broke her heart. She carried a torch for him for a few years until she grew up and realized what a d***head he was. She rarely, if ever, mentions his name anymore.

Today, she is off drugs (for many years now), beautiful, healthy, and vibrant. She works as a branch manager for a local bank, and waitresses and bar tends the Jalapeno's Restaurant & Cantina. She plays a mean game of 8-ball and 9-ball and will bet it up on occassion. She is still single and looking for the right guy. Someone will get a great gal, there.
