Who is responsible for money owed?

Well I see this for what I say the pitfalls of gambling. Not getting paid when you win, because your dealing with someone who did not have money to cover bet.

Sad but happens frequently even in Casino when they extend you likr of credit.
 
Old time hustle. Don't fall for it.

One of Tom Ferry's rules was get paid after each game or set depending on the game. Avoid this kind of "stuff".
 
My number 1 rule is never play for more than I can afford to lose or be cheated out of. If they lose and say they won't pay, I just say goodbye.🤷
I busted a scuffler at $100 or 120 and he told me he had it but needed the last 20 for groceries. I said, "I don't want it, let me buy you a drink."
 
Another scenario... Since no names were given, I suspect that the whole thing was a "hypothetical" situation created by someone to stir up shit. It probably never happened.
 
One of my first lessons happened in Mount Lake Terrace. I walked in to a room with two different kinds of cloth on maybe 4 tables. Hooked up with the young natural pool bum for $10 nine ball. He got me stuck $100. We had been marking and paying at $20 as I had no 10's. He was too strong and never gave me a breath. I figured if I could get him on the other table it might slow him enough for me to find myself. So I offered $20 a game on the other table or I am done. He accepted and my plan worked. Once I had my money back we were just marking. I got the marker up to $200. On the way I noticed bystanders talking into their hands. Then he was borrowing quarters. His money was out in "the car". I refused to put another quarter in until he paid the $160 he now owed. He was strong enough to have gotten back to zero. So I just consider it a lesson. No I didn't see him for another 6 months after he went out to get his money.🤷 And no I didn't ask for it. Just chuckled.

It happened. Well-known local players. It's on the Arizona Pool Players group on facebook.
 
Do "put the money on the light" and "post the bet" mean "put the money on the table"?

Or does "put the money on the light" mean to put the money on the light above the table, so as not to be wagering so conspicuously?

Just curious.
 
The backer is not a party to the bet that was made. If the losing player told the other player he had a backer before they started, then the other player should have verified that the backer was indeed backing this player. And then verified each subsequent set that they played. Or posted the money each set. With that being said, there could have been a miscommunication with the player and the backer about how many sets he would back them for. Ultimately it's still the losing players responsibility to pay if there was any miscommunication.

just means to post the $$$ before you tee-it-up. some people actually put the up money on the light. at derby one year svb played appleton and there was so much $ on the light that the light listed to one side!!
