I don't want to take sides, and I understand both sides of the arguement, however,
During the 70's and into the 80's the vast majority of the income of british snooker players was from exhibitions. Alex Higgins recieved the exposure that he did from his exhibitions. If it wasn't for his shows, the small tabloid coverage of his antics would have gone largely unnoticed at the beginning of his career imo. People who didn't know the blue was worth 5 was coming to see him before the World Championships had full BBC coverage.
The benefit is that people who come to exhibition are likely to tune into ESPN when they see that player competing. Or they may come to the event if it is in town.
Well said Cameron....exposure leads to more exposure. Most people in the states at one time have seen Mike Massey do trick shots on TV, you could ask most any person and they probably know who he is....its hard and fruitful work, Mike's been on the road 6 months out of the year most of his life doing exhibitions.
