Who is the best player in Brooklyn area???And who in Queens ???

Who are the best players in Brooklyn and Queens !!!!!

I think it's hard to say for each borough primarily because there are so few rooms left in NYC now. It's not like people are playing at their nearby rooms. For example, I live in Brooklyn but rarely play in Brooklyn. Earl is playing in NYC (primarily Steinway in Queens) so he's at the top of the list, obviously. In Brooklyn, I'm really not sure.

This kinda smacks of a "pool detective" thread...

Of the known players, I'd say the best two are Jayson Shaw and Earl Strickland. I give the nod to Jayson.

Aw hell. Does Shaw live here now? I ran into him at a Joss event. It was a miserable experience.

Guy said best players, seems as if that entitles all games. And there's no shot in hell Shaw is a better all around player then Earl. As in all around I'm not so sure shaw would be in the top 5 in NYC.

Thats kind of a gray area, saying "who is best".

I'll clarify by saying that if the games are 8,9,10 ball, then I'm taking Shaw. He might be a favorite playing Straights, too? I don't know if he has any experience playing 1p or 3c.

This all changes, tho, if the games are played on an 11.5 foot table with 6 different size corner pockets. In that case, I'll switch to Earl.

Edit- if all of NYC is included, obviously Mika is on the short list

I don't know but I wish 8 of the contenders would call Rob Pole at Skyline, he's looking for some good players to play out of his room.

Thanks for notes and all of these information.Didn't know that Earl lives in NY.Is that for a while????
:smile::smile::smile:

I haven't been to NYC in a long while, but Frankie Hernandez was from Queens, and he's always been a force to reckon with in action or in a tournament.

You gotta include Tony Robles in NYC's top players, I woudl think.

Honors also go out to my friend Spanish Pete, who's camouflaged wearing sunglasses in this pic.

I cant say they all live in Queens, but I will name a few who at least play there.

1. Earl
2. Robles
3. Frankie hernandez
4. Jeremy Sossei
5. Oscar Bonilla
6. Mhet Vergara
7. George Rodriguez
8. Sean Morgan

Here and there, but not regularly: Zion Zvi, Warren Kiamco, Joey K.

I haven't lost to all of em yet, but theres still time!

I believe Frankie is/was actually from Yonkers-right on the Bronx border.

I am 90% certain Jeremy Sossei lives in New England. Joey K is out in Long Island. The rest all apply although like I said before, they may not "live" in Queens but that's where they typically play.

Pool Players always flock to the latest and greatest which is now Steinway in this area. Rob is a real good guy and did very well when he first opened and had the 'In Spot' Excellent equipment, good burgers etc.-Rob will give anyone action too as far as i know. Champion champions will have to give up a little.

I hope it can regain its glory.

We had this discussion before. Honestly, it's not a fun question to answer for several different reasons. For one, what are the geographical requirements for being a NYC player? Do you have to live here? Should you be from here? Do you normally play here? After that, which games are we talking about? Rotation? 14.1? 1-pocket? How you answer each and every question I just asked can change the results.

The thing is, this is New York City and I'll tell you straight-up that being a New Yorker is a distinguished honor bestowed on those who have earned that right. I don't think it's fair to have a list and then suddenly, you've got Thorsten Hohmann visiting for the summer and now he's the best New Yorker (still, it's always a pleasure when Thorsten visits). On the other hand, there are players on Long Island and in New Jersey who only play pool in NYC. Obviously, they're New Yorkers.

I'm just saying, I got into trouble the last time I had a conversation like this. It's complicated. There are a lot of people that play really well here.

relevant to your last post on just who is a New Yorker-Jeremy who lives in Ct has largely played out of the metro area since he was 16 if not 15-in Westchester at first.- more so than Rob Saez i think, who I have heard referred to as a NY Player many times.

So i would say Jeremy is a NY Pool Player but not a New Yorker

Thats true Jude, I doubt anyone would argue that. For instance, Danny Barouty played out of Queens for many, many years. Not sure where he lives now. Even though he plays in the city these days, Danny will always be a Queens, straight pool monster to me. (And one helluva nice guy, too!)

And then if say, Earl wins some kind of Queens cup.... would he really be a true New Yorker?

Best in NY in rotation games, in this order (IMO):
1. Mika Immonen
2. Earl Srickland
3. Tony Robles
4. Jorge Rodriguez
5. Frankie hernandez
6. Zion Zvi
7. Oscar Bonilla

Danny is one of New York's best 14.1 players and yes, he still lives in Queens. With a high run near 300, he has very few peers. Regarding Earl, no he's not a true New Yorker but I've heard great things about him fitting right in. From what I've heard, he's got enough attitude to be a New Yorker so we'll consider his application. ;) Seriously, he's surprised me. Everyone has great things to say about him and if he left, there'd be a lot of people sorry to see him go.

Jayson Shaw doesn't make this list?
