Who is the best player you ever beat?

Funny you should ask. Just did that this past weekend. I was wondering if I'd tell my little story about my weekend at the Pa. Open 8-ball tournament. Since you ask, I'll tell you.

I was the only person all weekend to beat the winner of the tournament, Joe DePetro. (Sorry if I missed spelled that Joe)

Now to qualify that statement. It needs qualifying because he won undefeated. The tournament doesn't start till 8 o'clock Friday night so Friday afternoon while people are arriving they have mini tournaments. I took second in one of those, in which I beat Joe. He played one other mini and won that one, then went on to win the tournament undefeated. So, I was the only person all weekend to beat him. I told him after the tournament that I was going to brag all year about it. He laughed.

He is the best player I've ever beat.

How did I do in the main event? Not as well as I had hoped. Lost my first match, then won one, and lost my third. Lost to two very good players. All three matches went hill hill. I played very close to as good as I can play, so I can't complain about it and I had a great time at the tournament.

Oh well...unless other people could attest to that... ;)

Why would you say that? If you compete your going to win matches no matter who your playing. Maybe not a championship or even a tournament, but you will beat top players from time to time. I think from what I read on here there are quite a few good players. I have no reason to not believe someone if they say they beat so & so. If you attend any of the various tours you will see local players knock off champs all the time. I would not have answered this kind of thread except to make the point that players that have their fancy cues and put in endless hours practicing should enter tournaments, they should compete. No, they may no win the tournament but they will for sure have some memorable matches, maybe some memories of a life time.

The player that doesn't compete cheats themselves, isn't that why you play and put in all that practice time. I would hope someone would be inspired by this thread and want to jump in the next tournament, not say, "I can't beat those guys" and sit in the side lines always on the outside looking in. You go to the tournament, attend the players meeting, get to know the players on a first name basis, get to play with them and maybe even surprise yourself a little, you are a better player then you thought you were. You didn't choke and played your speed maybe didn't win, but didn't embarrass yourself either. Kind of makes that guy you match up with at the pool room for $5.00 a game not seem like so much, when you were playing Nick Varner just last only weekend.

I fixed it, sometimes the spell check doesn't catch my mistakes.

Good post macguy. After all, without the people that lose matches, there is no tournament. I've never went to one and not had a great time.

Sorry. Didn't mean to get you all bent out of shape. I know that he's a national hero in your country, and you probably have a shrine built in his honor.
BUT...fact is, Efren and Mike Lebron are very close friends. As a matter of fact, Efren AND Busti used to come and hang out with LeBron before and after every U.S. Open. Which put them both in my area for about 1 month out of the year for say 10 or so years. Efren more so then Busti. During which all they did was play cards, gamble at pool, and play in local tournaments.

So you can take that autographed picture you have of him and rip it to shreds. I'LL SEND YOU ONE OF ME! :D
The man can be beat. Not often, but it is possible. :)

Which means you play at Tacony.

And don't forget, Efren could be seen playing chess, too.

Let's not forget South Philly before they closed.

Never been to South Philly Billiards.

I once beat Corey Deuel at one of Drexeline's Tuesday night tournies.

I know you wanted to eliminate casual games and challenge table games from the thread, BUT all these short race 9-ball victories being reported are not that much different than winning a single game, AND most of us won't have anything to contribute otherwise, so... I've beaten Monica Webb 2 out of 2, Nesli O'Hare, Jeff Beckley, Jeanette Lee, and George Breedlove. Could I win a short race 9-ball match against any of them??? Possible, but not likely.

Mikko,

I knew you've beat Mika but didn't know you beat Hohmann, and playing even winner breaks in a race to 9! Was this before or after he won his world championship?

George Breedlove, Jeff beckley, Mark Jarvis, Steve McAniche, Brian Groce, Weldon Rogers, But the best win is always the next one against whoever I'm playing. I knew there were a lot of good shortstops posting here and after reading some of these lists, GREAT SHOOTING ladies and gentlemen. Happy Thanksgiving, Sam

I have beaten Ron Wisman 7-6 at a US Open qualifier, Jimmy Reid 9-5 at the TN State Championsip, and Cliff Joyner 7-2 at a tourney at The Rack in Memphis :D

Well, I beat Efren in a race to 5 at HardTimes. I've also beaten Max Eberle, Dave Hemmah, Francisco Galindo, Frankie Hernandez, Lorry Deleon, Mike Zuglan, Grady Mathews, George Sansouci, Jennifer Chen and Jeanette Lee.

All in tournament play except for Chen.

back in '96, i got the best of Luat. Best match i ever played was with Keith. i lost, but, neither one of us missed a ball. just 2 bad breaks and i had the 2nd bad break..so i lost.
