I'm more of a jack of all trades than an expert in any one field... but I do have a knack for finding excellent deals on cues from Goodwill, pawnshops, Craigslist, and more. Probably doesn't count for anything.
For snooker cues in general, i would have nominated Mel_smog, but he hasn't been around in years.

You are correct and I also did not offer any evaluation of the recommended sources.
But everyone should continually evaluate the accuracy of information offered in online forums because there are no checks and balances that qualify the people who post. Readers should get information from multiple sources and fact-check it with reliable sources.
It's okay that someone states that so-and-so is knowledgeable on (insert name) cues but the reader should independently verify that statement and weigh that person's answers against his/her answers to other similar questions on that maker's cues and history or whatever subject it is said he/she is expert.
Absolutely. I deal with information management every day. I tell my students that 99% of what is available is crap. What's hard is that some people look as hard as they can to find what they want to hear. That's how we get $1,000 officially autographed Mizerak cues and people who think Grandpa's Sampaio is a Balabushka...they found out on the internet...and they insist they are right and get pissed if you tell them different.
This discussion is not meant to produce information that should be used to research cues. Not at all. I can see how someone might think that though.

I figured the usual names would come up and they did, but I was curious about what names might come up that I didn't expect. Both names of cues and names of makers.
It's been kind of fun so far. For the most part nobody has taken it too seriously. Nobody has argued about expertise (that was a big fear).
I also knew I was posting about a potentially volatile topic and was hoping the community could just see it for what it is and be cool.
Then there were also those who chose to leave it alone. Some people that have a short fuse on this topic could have blown it up and they didn't. Credit to them for leaving it alone.
Now then....do we have an expert on Rieper cues around here?

Tikitavi would be the Tibbitts expert on AZ.
Lomax would be one of the Meucci experts and the Lomax expert also.
Classiccues would be one of the Bushka and Paradise experts.

Actually people can guess what they are, but for sure they really don't know.
It's easy to go and look at the pictures on a couple sites and compare and assume.
LOL...but when there are no pictures on the websites, people think it must of been custom made and one of a kind....
No one can be an expert on Meucci cues but people can keep pretending....

I remember about 5 years ago I was doing a medical lecture for some doctors and medical students. I saw one of them furiously going at typing on their laptop. I knew what was coming...
Her hand shot up and she challenged what I was saying. I knew exactly what her misunderstanding was and explained it as well as I could.
Five minutes later...same thing...same woman...same topic...I explained it again.
Three times she did this and because of what she was saying to me I knew exactly what article she was consulting. So on the third interruption I asked her to put away her laptop because I knew what she was consulting and I knew for certain she misunderstood the author.
She asked how I could possibly know that.
Because I was the author! She shut up and paid attention after that. LOL!

Absolutely agree, doc. In any cue thread, there will be some detractors, because, it's what they do. I had the same experience with a historical cue thread, very positive, but some had their panties in a twist, for whatever reason they do on the internet.
It's a great thread, actually invites posters to identify people with knowledge on cues. It can't be a bad thing. And here's hoping the thread goes on.
