Who is the man to beat for each discipline?

I thought the line on him now is that he is too old to play at the very top level -- 38. I see he is ranked 8th on the pro tour.

According to his recent interviews, he said, he's not having fun anymore. But I still do think he is still the man given the proper motivation. If there is probably a match between him and Ronnie like the Action Challenge in snooker. We will see a different Stephen Hendry.

Maybe it's more like "been there than that what's the point" way of thinking.

I don't really think anyone can answer this question accurately, because anybody can beat anybody on a given day. Nobody is a "champ" for years upon years, like Mosconi in the 40's & 50's. Just because you beat someone in a tournament, or gambling doesn't mean you're the best. You're only the best THAT DAY. IMO there are far too many good players to be able to make judgements that have any validity.

True, but I was really referring to the pinnacle players of each discipline. I mean those players that you can go toe-to-toe without weight at any given day and maybe come out ahead or even then you know you made it to the top echelon of play.

Just wait til Shane busts all these guys then the list will look something like...

10-ball Shane
9-ball Shane
8-ball Shane
10-ball bar table Shane
9-ball bar table Shane
8-ball bar table Shane

As far as I'm concerned, SVB is already king of the small table. Trust me, nobody wants any part of him on a barbox

I think these threads are fun, but I always come to the same conclusion....

If my Junk is on the chopping block and I get one player to save me it's EFREN at any game!

Gerry......junk intact!

Banks - Jay Helfert, HAHAHAHAHAHAHa..... FAtboy is man to beat!!!!

Earl in the past and on days when he was stable was the best 9 ball playing machine ever, Efren didnt have to like it, but Efren is more reliable and thus a better player over all,

If you can beat these guys consistently, you are the man, IMO:

9-ball: Ralf Souquet
14-1: Oliver Ortmann
8-ball: Efren Reyes
10-ball: Dennis Orcullo
Rotation: Efren Reyes
One-pocket: Efren Reyes
Carom: Thorbjorn Blomdahl
Banks: I don't know, probably some American ;)
Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan

10 Ball -Orcullo or SVB

One-Pocket - Efren Reyes

The only one I think I am certain about is Efren being top dog in 1 pocket. As for all the other disciplines....there are at least a few people in each game that are a toss up.

8 ball.....Reyes
9 ball.....Archer
10 ball...SVB
One pocket...Reyes
14.1...Hohmann

That may be true for 9 ball and other more popular games but I think Efren has clearly dominated 8 ball and one pocket for some time now.

While I agree that on any given day the top player moniker can change hands quite frequently...I'm going to go with the guys that have shown me consistancy...

9-ball - Johnny Archer
(player of the decade, still a threat to win any tournament, if anything I'd say his motivation is the only thing lacking in recent years *a family combined with having won everything on the planet will tend to do that to you*)

10-ball - SVB
(The kid's just been winning everything and beating everybody at this game in the last few months, you gotta go with the guy on the roll, especially since I don't think it's a fluke)

8-ball - Efren Reyes
(I'd say his record here speaks for itself!)

One-pocket - Efren Reyes
(Same as above!)

Rotatation - Efren Reyes
(This guy again?!)

Banks - Danny Harriman
(Totally biased pick here, but I'd still have to say he's a threat to beat anybody at the game *winner of the banks division one year at Derby and I believe 2nd or 3rd the next isn't a fluke*)

Straight Pool - Oliver Ortmann
(The guy really is a machine! It's hard to make this call since there are so few straight pool tournaments held, but for what there have been in the last few years, his record is as good as any and better than most)

Are you talking about the ESPN thing? If so, you ain't seen nothin' yet! Semih wasn't even challenged by that format. You should see what he can do in an exhibition. Search his name on YouTube and see what I mean.

I'm really suprised of how many people keep saying "efren reyes" everywhere.... is it just me, or didn't the guy become old? He was great yeah, but now he nowhere as good compared to those young players now... He miss alot of shots. he jumps after each shot & misses.. I mean his body language after the shoot is really annoying..
