Nothing as comical as a guy walking into the pool hall with a "dealer case" on his back.

I like to travel lite. I'm getting older and I travel on Jeepneys.

Ideally, I would have a back up shaft, in case the tip falls. But I don't. I go "free-balling".

Are you implying that if a case isn't a 1x1 or 1x2, that it's a "dealer" case because it may have a break cue in it?

I'd say the majority of players carry a 2x4 case or larger and very few of them are dealers.

Oh, to answer your question: I break with my player if I'm playing straight pool or one pocket. :p

I do also break with my player when I play 14.1 and One Pocket.

I occasionally break with my player when playing 9-ball, but not in tournaments.

I do normally carry a 4x8-bag containing my player and 1 or 2 back-up shafts, my breaker and my jump cue, so If I go with only one backup shaft and put the two pieces of jump cue handle/ butt in the pockets, a 2x4 bag would work too, but I like the extra space for occations when I have to bring an extra cue or shafts (tip replacements for friends f.ex.).

I do also "deal" sometimes when/ if I have something and someone to deal with:-)

I also just break 1pocket and 14-1 with my player, which has a 314 shaft, but use my break stick for 9ball. I carry a Instroke 3x7 case that holds a extra shaft, extra cue which is a Shon and a Jacoby jump. On of these days if you play enough you will wish you wouldn't have broke with your player.---Smitty

Having seen your break, I'd say you're a wise man to save your money.

I'm a collector and can afford more then one cue---LOL. I used to always break with my break cue but found I break better with my playing cue--- I think it has a lot to do with being more familiar since I use it over 95% of the playing time. I have a 3 by 4 case. Not a dealer-- never sell pool cues or guns.

you make funny.

I have found the break cue getting less use these days. With breaking templates, power becomes less important, vs. control.

I carry a soft case usually, player, b/j cue and 3c cue, if there is a chance I might go to a pocketless table.

I carry one cue with 2 shafts in a 2x4 case! I just could never get the feel for the dedicated break cue so now it sits at home. I play with an ivory ferrule too, haven't ever broke one.

I break with my player a lot. It feels much better in my hands than any other cue I own.

Freddie <~~~ cant break for $hit

I break and play with the same cue it has 180 points and a total of 120 rings made by Keith Hanssen of Keith Kustom cues if you want to look at it go to the cue and case gallery and look for the cue of the year contest
it is number six (6)

Same here. I break and play with my Keith. I actually prefer it over my breaker. Only reason I use a break cue is I get a little worried about blowing the tip off my player.

best,

Justin

Here in the United States, 9-ball took over as the game of choice on TV. The break has a bigger advantage than straight pool, or old school 8-ball rules. If you have a layered tip, you want to preserve it by using a different cue to break.

20 old years later, layered tips, Texas Express, Simonis 860, and the break cue are now considered the norm.

I'll break 9b with magic rack at 10mph with my player.
Otherwise I prefer not to beat on it. After smashing a couple of LD shafts I now feel like they're these flimsy hollow bamboo tubes that could shatter without provocation.

It depends on what game and how many games I'm going to play.

Generally I break with a different cue......for each and every game.

I like to let the crushing effects of my break subside in my break cue before I use it again. I've measured my break cue to be as much as 2 inches shorter after I've unleash my fury on the rack. One time, I accidentally broke with one twice and I literally ended up punching the rack with my clenched fist and shattering all the balls.

Can you say embarrassing ?

So I typically bring 30 or 40 break cues with me and an extra set of balls just in case.

Interesting . . .

I break with my jump cue . . . just to make it a little more challenging.

ehh..... I play 9ball and if I'm soft breaking or cut breaking then why not just do it with my playing cue which has a 314? Above poster I think said it best that due to the magic rack and faster cloth I think your break is more about control rather than power. But hey, if the cut/soft break isn't working then I can just walk over to my case and pull out my breaker and proceed to smash the rack as hard as I can.
