Who Should Get A "Pro Player" Banner?

I think it's a sign of appreciation for where they're at in the game and a reminder of what they can do to move the game ahead a step or two. We look forward to hearing from them and try to use what they say to improve our own quality of play.

What should be the standard for a player being judged a pro, and who's opinion counts in this decision making process?

Mike

Good question Mike, here's what was it takes to reach "Pro Player" status on azbilliards. They have tests that must be passed equivalent to an Iron Man Competition. It takes days to recuperate from the brutality they put you through.

It takes drive to be a Pro Player on azbilliards.
You have to be driven to improve every day. You can't be satisfied with your last performance on the pool table, or azbilliards.

It takes discipline to be a Pro Player (on azbilliards)..
You have to be disciplined. You have to follow a strict exercise and posting schedule.

It takes competitiveness to be a Pro Player.
You have to be competitive and want to beat your knockers.

It takes self-confidence to be a Pro Player.
You have to be confident in yourself and ignore the insecurity of "critics".

It takes aggressiveness to be a Pro Player.
You have to make moves on your own, not just respond to what other posters do.

It takes focus to be a Pro Player.
You have to be able to focus on the thread at hand and tune out any other distractions.

It takes commitment to be a Pro Player.
You have to be committed to pool and posting. You have to give up other hobbies and pool forums and commit yourself to azbilliards several hours a day.

It takes good time management to be a Pro Player.
You have to be able to manage your time well. You post, practice and/or play pool tournaments each day, on top of school, work, and spending time with friends and family.

It takes some amount of raw talent to be a Pro Player.
You have to be naturally talented at pocket billiards. This is something that certain players are just born with, and others develop through TOI and TIP training.

It takes determination to be a Pro Player.
You have to be determined. You can't give up, no matter how hard it seems. When you lose a match or miss an easy shot, you have to get right back up and try again.

It takes a high tolerance for pain to be a Pro Player.
You have to be able to put up with a lot of pain, from pushing your TOI or TOO to its limits.

It takes adaptability to be a Pro Player.
You have to be able to adapt to different forum situations and new techniques quickly.

It takes emotional maturity to be a Pro Player.
You have to be in control of your emotions. You can't let yourself get angry at the nits, knockers and haters. You must realize that what they say about a Pro Player is what they really think of themselves. It's called projection, and a Pro Player must ignore it.

This sounds like a marriage counseling brochure. Are you sure you didn't change a few things and repost this? :grin-square:

BCA Hall of Fame? What tournaments has he won, he was before my time, so I'm curious.

Zackley! Some of the greatest players of the game may not have even won a local tournament. They didn't have to, because they made a living behind the scenes.

What or who, is to say who is and who isn't, pro caliber?

Mike

Now my goal is to become Player of the Year - do you think I have a chance?

(One Pocket HOF)

CJ don't make yourself look bad are you upset,
someone else besides you should get a Pro Banner ?

Why don't you add to the list of posters that should have
a Pro Banner ?

I wish everyone had a Pro Banner, then it would cut down on the bigotry against Pro Players. ;) The first 2 years I posted here they didn't show this banner under my name.

I guess after playing in over 140 tournaments last year they decided I was a "Pro Player".

Now my goal is to become Player of the Year. Do you think I have a chance, or do I not play well enough?

THAT has been MY POINT all along! There are numerous threads on here discussing that...one not too long ago.

Before Rodney Morris won a PRO tournament, was he a PRO? He sure beat a LOT of PROs before he won a tournament. The same goes for a lot of players.

I won't doubt he was a good player, just wondering what he did.

So was SJD just a money player?

He lived here in Ft. Worth for awhile, and they do say he played pretty well. I won't doubt he was a good player, just wondering what his forte was.

I was going to say that too...EVERYBODY gets a banner. It will be like school today where 'everybody is a winner"..."everybody gets a trophy"..."there are no losers". That keeps all the people who are "butt hurt" feeling good.

I think the TRUE PRO is the person whose game makes them a PRO, they DON'T NEED banners so that you can differentiate who is who..their cueing expertise defines them.

SJD One Pocket Hall of Fame, clear enough ???

I threw that out there for all to see and then we can truly say, who is worthy.

SJD, are you posting with an alter ego? :grin-square: J/K Remember, I started this thread and brought up SJD's name as an option for starters.

after a short period of time the top students are making average scores.

Isn't this socialism in it's purest form.

Everyone wins, so there's no reason to improve. I've read studies on this and after a short period of time the top students are making average scores.......go figure. ;)
