Who should win their spots?

In no particular order, Fong Pang Chao, Pei Wei Chang, Chia Chang Wu and Po Cheng Kuo may all be among the world's ten best players, and their absence is a shame. Chin Shun Yang, at least in my book, is a half notch below all four of these, but he's also conspicously absent from the IPT scene. I suspect if this tour makes it, all five get in at some point, but you never know.

I couldn't agree more sjm, if the IPT can prove that it's here to stay long term some of the Taiwanese players will most likely come over to play. I don't think they play much eight ball over there but Chia Ching Wu proved that they can adapt pretty quickly;) The most dangerous Taiwanese player just might be Fong Pang Chao, I've heard he can play some amazing straight pool which would certainly help him in eight ball, although he hardly plays straight pool. Hopefully we can see some of these great players on the IPT in the coming years.

There really are so many great players in the world that it is tough to limit it to 150. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how many actual touring professionals there are on the PGA Tour? I believe that if you fall out of the top 125, and lack any exemptions from previous wins, you lose your card. However, in a season, how many actual card holders are there? There is the 125 from the previous season as well as however many players are coming from the Nationwide Tour, Q-School, and whatever other methods of qualification there are. Also, I wonder if there will be exemptions granted for winners of events and, if so, will those players with exemptions count as 1 card holder against the total 150, or will we eventually see some number of card holders (presumably 150) in addition to some number of exempt players?

Jimmy,

There are approximately 295 players with exempt status for the upcoming 2006 PGA Tour Season.

I'd like to see Dan Wallace, Shane Manaole, Jimmy Mendoza, Frank the Barber, Dave Hemmah, Tang Hoa, Simon Pickering, Amar Kang, Lory Deleon, Louis Ulrich, Corey Harper and Oscar Domingez. We need some west coast representation!!!

Other players, Shane Vanboeing (?), Justin Bergman, Dave Matlock, and Alex Pagulayon

I would also love to see more of the Filipino's play (I hear Luat will be playing the qualifiers) and also the Taiwan players!!! I think it should be interesting to see who shows up to these events.

I'd like to see every one of those players in there also. ;)

You're right though. There are some real good players on the West Coast that don't get much press because there isn't a lot happening in pool over here. There was a time when, no matter who you were, you could find someone to play at Hard Times. Granted, some of the players hanging out there weren't from there (like Efren), but there were plenty of local players who were super tough. A handful of those players are still playing but there just isn't a whole lot happening in pool over here that anyone ever hears about. A few West Coast guys did get in though. We'll all have to become Ernesto and Max fans (Max is from the East Coast but he's been here long enough to claim him, I guess). :)

It would be cool to see some of the gals qualify or to have a qualifier specifically for the women (maybe 1 of the 4 spots reserved). It would be nice to see Melissa Herndon and Jeannette Lee playing.

Two more players not yet mentioned seem to merit some attention:

A name that is very conspicuous in its absence from the IPT roster is Sandor Tot, who was ranked #1 on the Eurotour during 2005.

Vilmos Foldes, who came 9th at the 2005 WPC, and who beat Johnny Archer at the World Summit, is another sharpshooter whose name would be a nice addition to the IPT roster.

No sign of Sandor Tot, but it's nice to see that Vilmos Foldes is at Derby City trying to qualify for the 2006 IPT Tour. He's already one of the last four on the winner's side, so he stands just two wins away from earning a tour card. He gets Pagualyan next.

Who in Deed should try to qualify.

I like Shane Vanboeing, wish Jessie Bowman would try, and as long as you are throwing around female names, WHat about Ga Young Kim? SHe has been whipping the piss out of the top females in the world this last year, and with her youth she is onlygoing to get better. I watched her beat the pants off of Bill Ferguson, want to talk about an ego buster. LOL:D

Eureka! Foldes has beaten Pagualyan 10 - 3. Foldes vs Miller with a 2006 IPT tour card to the winner.

Engert crushes Van Boening 10-2 and now needs 2 more wins for an IPT 2006 card. Bad luck for Shane who seemed to be having a great charge.

I don't know what happened, but I would guess that Engert
just was on his game (or corrected what was wrong from the
previous match). Obviously, his 14.1 skills make him as
competitive an 8 baller player as there is. I have always felt
like Engert is a champion waiting to be introduced, a little
overshadowed by Thorsten and Niels.

.... and, of course, by his countrymen Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann, both world champions. Your point is right on, though. Tough to get noticed with guys like that around you!

And always room for one more

Let's not overlook a player who was 2nd in the 2004 WPC and who won the gold medal in pool at the 2005 World Games. That would be Pei Wei Chang.

Wow, this thread is really something. Easy to overlook just how many outstanding players are absent from the IPT roster.

How about Danny Medina, just thought of him and see no one brought him up. He did win the 8 ball championship in Reno although on bar tables. I would think he could make it. Surprised he was not in Ky or in the qualifier.

He probably isn't a big fan of the strict sportsmanship rules.
