Who to trust?

I certainly don't want to offend anyone for this thread especially the person I may be dealing with but I must ask. How, when, and why do you trust someone when buying or selling something on this website. I have posted in the wanted/for sale section about some items I am needing and recieved a message stating they have what I am looking for. But before I send a money order for over a thousand dollars I would like some feedback from you guys about this.

The biggest reason I am asking is because I haven't seen many posts from this person and am somewhat leary.

Again, not trying to offend only trying to protect myself.

Suggest asking for references of people on the forum the person has dealt with.

Look up all their posts, check out what transactions they've been involved in and pm the people they have dealt with.

Ask the seller for references.

Do a small deal or two before jumping in for a load of cash.

If you are still nervous then just obey your gut feeling and do business w/someone who is established. There are lots of sellers here, at pool related web sites, and on ebay that will treat you right.

Trust no one. Don't trade/buy anything you can afford to lose.

The only safe bet is a third party dealing. Not sure if anyone uses that here in pool but in other online dealings , the 2 parties find an impartial thrid party ( Store/Dealer/Retailer) and both send goods to them. They verify and pass goods on from there for a small fee usually.

I do it for a few other feilds of interest.

If you not confident or sure , don't do it. It's that simple. :)

I second "Trust No One", so much so I have it tattooed on the back of my right forearm and scrolled on my JJ case. Of course, you can give people a chance...

You must have trusted the tattoo artist:D

i actually ran into the same situation when i was new to this forum. it was a deal with someone people here might remember. Painpool aka aaron painter. i ended up rollin the dice on it and i mailed him a rather sizable check (like 4 feet by 5 feet, lol) deal went smoothly. i would try an escro service if i had to do it again though

I second the Escrow service that Proficient offers that someone has suggested.

I have used their service before. At least they are real people that you can communicate with should any problem arise.

If the items are trivial. then you could afford to take a chance but if it is expensive then try Proficient.

Best regards
Chris

Escrow...as said by many, thus far.

It is $1000. Spend a bit extra (for the escrow service) and have peace of mind.

When I was pretty new here, I made a purchase from Jazznpool, Martin is a great guy to deal with, very fast shipping. I also made some purchases from Waldo's, very nice folks, super fast shipping.

I see many good words posted about BHQ, Varney, Chrisonline and Richard at X-Breaker and Daytona Joe. Hope this helps.:)
