Who was the best pool player you ever played in your pool career?

I've not had a career but I would say Danny Harriman, Louis Roberts, Buddy Dennis, Mark Wilson, Bucky Bell, C.J. Wiley :) , Shannon Daulton, and several others close to or in that category are some I've played over the years.

You are welcome,
There is also a video of Buddy Hall talking about how he beat Efren in Texas. Efren was using the alias, I forgot it now but you will see the interview.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

There's a video of the Hall vs. Reyes encounter in Texas? Where? Would be grateful if you could point me to it!

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Do a youtube search for Buddy Hall VS Efren Reyes interview by pool mag. That is how I found it. It not the match it is Buddy Hall talking about the match and how it went down. I hope this helps. Thanks.

You are a Bad man! To the bone! Lot of good players you had battled with.

I've played several.... but would have to say D. Medina and Jimmy Dawson are some of the best mentionables.

I would have to say the best player I have played was Nick Varner. Nick remains the epitome of class and style. He is a true gentleman of the game.

Pro's that I've played with/against

Tournament
I beat Kevin West
I lost to Max Eberle

Practice
I beat/lost to Santos Sambajon
I lost to Leonardo Andam

Exhibition
I beat Efren Reyes

Challenge Table
I lost to Keith McReady

:) In my dreams :)
I beat SVB (DOH!)

Over the fifty five years I've played? Irving Crane and Mike Sigel have to top the list. Larry Hubbart while he still lived in Rochester. Dennis Hatch too many times. Played Archer at the first Turning Stone event. Lost 11-10. Choked with an easy safety that wasn't safe. Efren at the same event. Played Mika, Dan Louie and Charlie Williams at one DCC event. Beat Danny Medina at a Reno Open. Right after he won the previous event. Lost to Earl at Country Club USA hill - hill. Beat Jose at the same event. Having the honor to play the late, great Pat Howey on a regular basis.

Worst beat down? Sergio Rivas Saturday night at this years SBE. How could I lose to a twelve year old ?

I've been lucky to have played many great players over the years, but the one who stands out the most to me was Jean Balukas. I played her several times in competition, both in 14.1 and 9 Ball, and she was a machine.

Fran -

Honestly, how would vintage Jean do against present day women champs?

I was under the impression that Jean and Jim Rempe were pretty close.

THATS saying something.

I played Buddy Hall in a big tournament and beat him 9-8.
Same tourney I played Hopkins. He safed me bad every rack & won.
I played Mike Seigel in another tournament. 9-3 he won and can you believe he made the 9 on the break 5 times in different pockets? (he thought highly of himself for that)
I had Nick Vlahos beat too, but I needed 2 points and he won.

There are great players everywhere and you can't beat them without firing.

I played Tony Annigoni and beat him 2 out of 3 times in tournament play in Monterey Ca back in the mid '90s...got a HUGE spot (about the time "off the rail" came out). Lost to Shawn Wilkie 5 to 2 in a regional tourney in 2006 or so. Have to say, I thought Tony was a stronger player...although Shawn is playing at a much higher level than him now. But I'm a weak banger compared to either of them, so what do I know?

In tournament play I played Johnny Archer twice. He beat me the first time and I beat him the second time in short race mini tournaments. I have had the pleasure of getting beat by other top pros, but Johnny has the most world championships of those who I have played.

I beat Stevie Moore in a race to nine once, but unfortunately the match was a race to 11 that day. :(

I have beat some other pros that were not in their prime like Wade Crane.

I beat Tommy Kennedy once hill hill. But other than that I have a perfect record of losing to all current ranked pros.

Dennis Hatch-I beat him in the finals of an event here in Canada. He played
some awesome pool.

Johnny and Mario Morra-I've only beaten johnny once and have never beaten
his Dad in tournament play.Johnny's got the perfect stroke and his dad has the perfect brain.

Jason Klatt-Have lost twice hill hill to him.Big player if you let him get going.

Eric Horlifson -I've won and lost against Eric in tournaments. He's another
player that when his break gets going,he's real tough to beat.

Jeff White-never beat in tournament play.Relentless player with all
the tools.

Alex the (lion)-lost to him years ago in a tournament and then lost hill-
hill gambling with him ,both of us playing one-handed.

Not bad for a guy that plays once a week:smile:

How about Paul Thornley? Gerry (The Ghost) Watson? "Jumpin" Joe Leonard???? Chris Orme? There are a few other Canadian players we used to see here in Rochester from time to time. Some awesome competition there! You did great!

I played (and lost) to Johnny Archer in a tournament. Gambling it was probably Wade Crane or maybe Pete Horne. (A fairly unknown player who was pretty sporty in his time.)

Actually I forgot about Gerry who i have played and Jumpin joe Lawrence
who I've played also. Both those guys are real funny and Joe Lawrence
has more story's than Walt Disney and in his prime played better than
anybody on Earth(imo). Many guys didn't want any part when it came
to gambling with Joe.
Chris lives about 5min from me but we've never seen eye to eye on
to much. Were just not to compatible as people but will admit if his
mind matched his physical attributes on the table,he could of had
a World championship many moons ago.Believe it or not but Chris
was known to be better than Alex Pagulayan when they hung out
many years ago.
Alex took a different path in pool and achieved what many dream about.
I've known Paul for years but have never played him. He's like the Mr
Miyagi of the Pool world. Thanks for reminding me of these great talents.
