uh....Ronnie?

Ronnie Alcano looks like he's on a whole other level right now so I picked him, but looking at the brackets it's just a total minefield. Pool God A is going to run into Pool God B next match and then right after play Pool God C....so just damn.

i hope carlo biado gets on the stream table he's one of the best players on the planet. alcano is probably THE BEST after the break right now, looking for him to go real deep. take away the 10 ball break factor, i think alcano out moves the world in 9 ball...

Looks like Johnny Archer and Brandon Shuff are on a collision course with a Mosconi Cup spot for the winner.
This is only based on mathematical possibilities which also dictate that they could both make the team.

Dennis Hatch? Not shown on the draw. Will they add names now that the draw is done.

Rodney Morris must go through his first match against top opposition Neils Feijen who has his own agenda - a spot on Team Europe

If Brandon Shuff can keep himself away from Q-Masters at night during the action hours, he will have a shot. He needs to concentrate on tournament only, going to bed at night early, relaxing, eating well, et cetera. If he chooses to go to Q-Masters and enjoy all the distractions, then I rule him out. I hope he stays away from Q-Masters.

If he gets knocked out of the tournament, that's a different story. It takes days to recover from those all-nighters. Take it from me! :embarrassed2:

Sorry, after the last Emerald-Billiards event, i have to drop Shuff from the top ten list, he is not up to par yet, even though he can beat one or two at top, but all know he is dangerous and squeezing him a little harder, no chance for him.

Even though Im not a big Earl fan, he may pull this one off. His bracket looks the softest to me.

I have 2 possible:
First is Danny Orcullo
Second is Mika Immonen

Wishfull thinkings for:
Earl "my pearl"
Django Bustamante
Landon Shuffet
Johnny Archer
Ralf Souquet
Alex "the mighty lion"

If Reyes took this advice he'd have 5 or 6 US Open titles to his name.

I was looking at his brackett too, but when I saw Pinegar was there it wasn't looking too soft. Pinegar has a good chance at putting him on the losers side if they wind up playing.

I like both of them, but each one has full-blown radar in sensitive mode when they're competing.

If somebody crinkles a potato chip or if Earl's opponent pulls ahead in the race, Earl's game goes downhill from there. :frown:

I do like Pinegar a lot, but he can be a temperamental player when he's feeling the heat. :embarrassed2:

Filipinos are a different breed of players than Americans, number one.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen Jose Parica retire early for the night if he's got a big match the next day.

I didn't see that tournament. I heard they only had 28 players. Wow!

Brandon can get there if he's got his head screwed on straight. This means staying away from Q-Masters and distractions that will cloud up his thinking. When you're in a big event like the Open, you need to have 100 percent of your concentration on the Open and nothing else.

You don't see Johnny Archer, Earl Strickland, or some of the other top players hanging out in Q-Masters all hours of the night when they're competing in the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. They definitely don't engage in action matches while they're still in the event.

Brandon's killer instinct and will to win is strong. I have seen him spank Larry Nevel and Johnny Archer, and this was years ago. I'm sure he's improved since that time.

I missed Bustamante. He should definitely be on the list.

If you vote "other" tell us who your write-in vote is for.

I really have no idea, tough to tell.
You can never be sure of anything the way the game is played nowdays.
Check out my friend and Greek champion Nikos Ekonomopoulos, his first participation!
Some of you that may know him from Eurotours and other events will surely agree that he is really dangerous..
Hope he wins the title!

Having scanned the brackets, I'm inclined to call this the toughest US Open field ever. Greatly increased European participation as well as slighlty wider Asian participation add up to this ----- it will take some phenomenal play to win this and the matchups should be amazing by as early as the third round. Worldbeaters will be shown the exits early.

Nice to see that the foreign based players don't skip American events the way Americans based skip foregin based events.

Inclusive of our defending champion, I'd rate the top 20 contenders as follows, listed alphabetically and no, I've not considered who has an easy and who has a tough draw:

David Alcaide
Ronnie Alcano
Yukio Akagariyama
Darren Appleton
Carlo Biado
Francisco Bustamante
JL Chang
Corey Deuel
Niels Feijen
We Li He
Thorsten Hohmann
Mika Immonen
Pin Yi Ko
Chris Melling
Rodney Morris
Dennis Orcullo
Alex Pagulayan
Brandon Shuff
Ralf Souquet
Shane Van Boening

... but it's the Open, and anything can and will happen. This is going to be great!

Niels Feijen is in top condition atm- if his break works he has great chances. Le He Wen is another great option in my opinion and Darren Appleton. For me at the moment the 3 stongest player in the pool world.

Bob Jewett is leading his match 5-2 right now....
...c'mon Bobby!!!!!!!....one for AZ

I voted for the Lion.....but like JAM says, there'll be late-night action
at Q-Masters to be considered....some tournaments Alex had no chance
in the late stages, but he won much more $ than the winner.
