Why is the bar set so low? So what is this supposed to prove? Who can pick out the best looking pre-made blank from an outside source. Takes a great amount of talent to put in a pin and fit a shaft. I would no more consider building a cue without a joint or a butt cap than I would sleeping in a bear den. As far as I'm concerned, such a cue is a complete waist of money as the moisture absorption on both ends destroys in little time compared to cues with protection in these areas.

If your trying to show off your abilities why not have a build off with cues with 4 point, 4 mitered veneered prong half-splice with 4 windows with matching mitered veneer work and a few inlays. Why not? Probably because anyone who is willing to give a cue away isn't able to build such a cue. Those that can don't have to prove anything to themselves or to others.

I think it should prove craftsmanship....
And who said everyone would make pre-made blanks into cues...?
I know I can make my own splice...
I would never assume no one cann't.....
if you dont like the terms or the contest you dont have to join in.
but it would give anyone a chance to show what they can do.
every cue could hit different....the paint could be different...
Shafts.... there's so much factors that's involved.

And also I said Sneaky pete .....
something within a 300-500 range.

we would then eventually get to making the 4 points...

Also I do not think that's there's a cue maker that's really untouchable by all means...
champions fall sometimes....
An unbeatable team can be beaten.....
As time progress sometimes so does the maker so if a maker wants to join they can or they dont want to ....
I know I would join ....even though I know deep down I really dont have to prove anything...... I would join cause it would be fun to compete.
it's like eferen saying...ohh I'm the #1 player in the world...I dont have to prove anything(which he doesn't) but he still plays doesn't he.
If you say, well he needs the money, that's what he's playing for, then why do cuemakers make cues? a competition like this could help any newb to compete with anyone....they can either rise above the rest or be put in place.
Then as time progress we can go with the 4 points, 5,6,7,8, and so on...
A competition of inlays....
I mean we all have started somewhere....
can you still make a sneaky that's just as good as your 4 points?
(that comment was not towards you. it was a question for everyone.)
if you dont want to join then dont.

But everyone deserves a chance.
I think that giving a newb a chance to show his workman ship is great.

Come now Dick thats a little harsh isn't it.....Talent don't build good cues anyways my friend you know that, hard work does.

By your comments those Scruggs sneakys that every player on earth pretty much loves are not good cues?

I'm sure he didn't mean just a plain ol' 4pt house cue conversion.....and even if he did what business is it of yours to knock the man.

guess eric crisp has no good abilities or talent either since his cues are so very plain......hell wasn't he in the other build off with a plain jane? Don't see how much better a plain jane is over a slightly modified sneaky....hell its full splice and consensus is highly that FS is best (tho of course its always arguable)

Who ever said the cue would be given away either? Passed around tested and such but given away? Why? Hell maybe I'll build one and donate it to the afterschool program and use it as a write off.

I don't even think the build off is going to prove or is meant to prove who's cue is better, as long as both are constructed well.....b/c as we all know HIT is subjective! Its a blind comparison of loosely similar constructed cues.

I'm sure you were born with maple in hand and a dial caliper in the other making and having the best techniques b/f you stopped sh*tting in your pants as a child......not everyone can start or be at the level that the great DICK is.

F*k it Dick lets just make a Brunswick 360 from scratch while we are at it if that will make you happy today in the A.M.

I'm sorry brother but you are not the pope....don't be so grumpy and condescending in the mourning. I been up all night and am in world class typing stroke and am in no mood to tolerate such childish attacks, especially on a gentleman like marshall

Making a full splice from scratch would be the only way this build off would be fair. Also it seems rings and maybe butt plates would also be a good idea, but no fancy rings. I really don't want to do it, but just giving input. The reason for the rings is the way they are installed makes your cues play differently from others. And if you allow fancy rings you might as well allow inlay work, as all you are doing then is making the inlay work be tiny. I think the other build off will find that out in the end. That is not the way to go if you are primarily juding off of fit, finish and playability. The way the splice is cut and glued up makes a difference. If you use premade blanks, with no rings, then you might as well just have a shaft building build off and let everyone send in their best shaft and see how that goes.

Let's face it, the last build off was a disaster, if you go by the original stated guidelines. I know in the end the cues were to be auctioned or raffled off with the case they traveled in across the U.S. Never happened, and most cannot make heads or tails about the final outcome.

Now there are 2 more build offs brewing, I hope these 2 fair better than the last one. If it is possible to capture the prestige of such events as the Memphis in May BBQ cook off, or other challenges, then the build off might be a winner. As it goes right now, several months later, a thread had to be started to as who one the last one. That offers no benefit to the entrants, who essentially wasted their time.

I do not thnk this would be fair to those who can not make a full splice...
I still say Just sneaky petes....
how you make it.
It doesn't matter if you buy the blanks or not...
I would still pit my against theirs.....
So there you have it..I say
People who want in should get in and those who dont dont....
I'm going to post it in as much forums as possible and generate a list of people to receive the items..... which I can only hope AZB people will be on board....
inlays wouldn't matter as long as it is a sneaky..
lets put a value on it of minumum 150-400
I would say that would be fair...
and The cues will be sold on AZB and money donated to a boys girl club of somekind.... I think that a majority vote on the destination of the money be held by all the participating makers.
for those who do not want to sell can have the cue back.....
very simple.

hey greyghost got a number to call.....can I call?

I would keep immaculate records and post them when the time comes.
I would make sure that if we get this started before the valley forge that it gets there also.
As being fair as possible...
I will not guide the woods and or splice and blanks being used...
just build your sneaky model within the price line of (150-400) with out names..the names will be kept by me and all WILL be disclosed in the end...
Nothing will be held back.
And I will aslo see if I can get professionals on board. I have friends who are friends of different players.

This I would place my reputation on...
But... Im in..
Anyone else..
will post more about the rules...
I need someone to help me coordinate this...
Greyghost?
you seem young and full of enerygy...wanna get this thing going with me?
I'm sure there are lots of newbs out there that are willing to participate,
and any seasoned makers should join either to show craftsmanship, their greatness and why they are great, and or put people in place.

Lets get this ball ROOOOLLLLIng

sure thing I'll do what I can when I can, as we all know I go off the blip at times........

i may just send one thats hollowed out to a very thin wall thickness...fill with sand and watch it explode upon first impact....that would be PRICELESS to see the look on peoples faces....

It'll hit like a bag of sand lol

Thats just a joke  cant do that anyways I would get shanked getting sand all over like that....
