Oh what a book that would be, just the stories i know about him are amazing.
He was a enigma, a bit of a mystery about him everywhere he went.
Back in the day you would see Jack around the country at the big action pool rooms and the #1 rule was to keep your mouth shut don't talk about Jack lol

Too bad Jay and Jack never collaborated on a book. I suspect it would have been one hell of a read.
The biggest scores in pool were made both in Detroit (many six figure scores) and in Medford, Oregon, the home of the Airplane Man (Rosey). He was the owner of the largest charter jet company in the world and he loved to gamble at pool. Harry Platis beat him out of a very healthy six figure score (I know how much but prefer not to put it on here).
The biggest score in pool I personally know about was when Archie hooked up with Bobby Baldwin, the President of the Mirage Hotel at the time. Talk about a B- player making money! Over the course of two weeks Archie won right around a million in cash. At the end they were playing 20K a game 9-Ball on a bar table! He then proceeded to beat Baldwin out of another million playing heads up poker, and that was the start of his amazing run where he eventually amassed a fortune estimated to be well over thirty million (all in cash and casino chips). But it all started with his pool score over Baldwin.
Cooney did his thing for over two-three decades, seeking out the high rollers and biggest gamblers in the pool world, and laying down elaborate hustles that usually ended in six figure scores. No one else ever did anything like that. He was the Ultimate Pool Hustler!

I would say JRB is the biggest action player today, these champions are all missing zero's off their bets compared to him. He won $240,000 before I got done at the gym one morning.
That's 240,000 one tenths of a half cent if anybody is asking.

An internet search said Reyes is worth about two million. That should last any reasonable person no matter where they are.
On You Tube I watched Reyes win $500,000 playing Morris, $250,000 playin Hohman, $200,000 playing Segal, $100,000 playing Earl and $50,000 playing Mika. I counted up over $600,000 in one year.
That is just some of the stuff I watched on You Tube. He has had many 1st place finishes in many tournaments.
I don't know of any one that has won more money in tournaments then him. if some one has please enlighten me.

I was waiting for Jay to weigh in, Stu. And I also knew Freddie was not far off base if not squarely on... between the two of them, they could fill an encyclopaedia, let alone a book! :grin:
Jay, if Cooney won't collaborate, why not just interview him til hell freezes over and simply write the book from the interviews and what you already know? He might go for that.
Jason, I thought about mentioning JRB, but purposely left him out due to possible IRS considerations. No question he has won and lost more than anyone else playing pool currently. He still holds court at Griff's on a regular basis.

He tried to match up with me ,but we didn't play
After Archie ran his profits up near $30,000,000 he went broke and
was sleeping in his car again
A few ups and downs but like Nick the Greek,Titanic thompson,and just about any pool
player you can name,at the end of life it will be debts and a sad ending
I know about many as i knew their end
One great pool scuffler was Pete"Popa Glenn",unheard of by many ,the father of Dennis Glenn,he made many the score but also flirted with respectability owning pool halls,investing in poll
cues like Szambotis and Balabushkas
Pete was the exception to the rule,but then again he did own businesses and eschewed actual risk taking gambling
Oh sure ronnie won most of his pool games one way or another,but he lost it back at the track or craps or the book
When he was doing best he ran a book,tradgedy is the only way to describe what became of him.

I'd always heard Ronnie Allen "made more scores" than anyone, but I also knew he was running above radar for many years on the back end of his life so logically, there were probably some who no one ever heard of that really were the ones who took it off in giant numbers. Ronnie Allen was just the most ( or up there ) famous of the big-time gamblers. One thing's for sure.. he never had a problem betting it up.
Bobby is from here in Tulsa. After Wynn sold out he was wined-n-dined by MGM to be the top guy at CityCenter in Vegas. Was also youngest winner(at the time) of WSOP in '78. Vegas has been REALLY good to Bobby B.
