Thought it might be interesting since so many players will be in Louisville and the best players are not always the best gamblers.

Here's the scenario:

We're all meeting in New York City, a Billionaire friend of mine is going to give us all a brand new Cadillac so we don't have to worry about car trouble and he's giving us each $10,000 in cash.

You have 60 days to get to Los Angeles and the one with the most money wins everything.

WHO DO YOU TAKE ON THE ROAD WITH YOU?

It sure would not be me, my first road trip in 61 was exactly that. By the time I got to Arkansas and Hot Springs, I lost my caddy, my cue and my lettace. I ended up walking out of the state on foot. By the time I got to LA I was one sorry sight. The same road trip the next year across the country faired better, but my first one left deep scars of being busted and totally down and out and starving. I don't think I ever got over that.
Even today, I fear that worse than anything else. I did not leave town with 10 g/s, I left town on both trips with one thin dime in my pocket. The test was to see if I could go cross country with no stake totally on my wits. It makes you a hustler immediately as soon as you get hungry, the preditor comes out at once.

Great post Fast Man...I've never been on the road so I can only speculate. No one knows how they will respond in adverse situations until they are there. To 99.9% of the population, it is speculation. Like Royce Gracie said after easily winning the first Ultimate Fighting Championships, he said something like, "some of the guys got humiliated in this competition, but these guys that showed up are the real tough guys. All those guys sitting at home talking about it don't have the guts to actually step into the ring." I salute you Fast Man for the stories your experiences tell.

Couldn"t stay away huh Larry?

Would you like me to stay away? People wrote me and told me to come back and post and to ignore those who wanted to stop me posting. I am back by request, there are players who seek knowledge and want help. I am here to help them, not you sir, it's a good bet you know everything and don't need any help. :D

Larry my man i could care less if you do or you dont. I think you are the one who thinks they know everything about pool. I was just saying you couldnt stay away, because i know you like to give your little tips thats all.

Steve, you started a great thread, in my HO. I hope it will get back on subject. I'll try to shove it that way. If you are talking about all time money makers, remember, I'm an old man and have seen a ton of them. Been on the road with half. Bill Lawson. 99% of you guys never heard of him. Ask Keith, Buddy or any of the older gang. Followed closely by Utley J. Puckett. They both laid it down perfectly. Bill got me for more than anyone. Ronnie Allen, in his prime, because he could rob you at any game and make you like it.

Today's players? This is subjective. If you are talking about an unknown that plays close to top speed? My little buddy. If you mean a HIGH roller that will never DOG it, Keith McCready.

Since bar boxes are so popular, I'd have to go with Bobby Pickle. If recognition wasn't a problem, I'd take Parica any day of the week. But anyone who has ever seen him, or HEARD him speak, would most definitely pass on a money game.

In the 60's and 70's I would take Hawaiian Brianwho I hear was always a winner. Today it would have to be Jose.

That's exactly what I'm talking about Bill, there's sooooo many guys out there that can get the money and people have never heard of them. Does it mean they weren't/aren't great players.....or even champions? Hell no!!

I'll post my road partner later......if he doesn't go with someone else by then, lol. We'll see how many different names come up in the meantime.

BTW Josh, Archie was around here and no one would have took him then but he did hit a hell of a roll.

Good Topic.

I think if I was going on the road, my 1st choice would be Alex P. Obviously recognition would be a factor, but it would be hella fun. And definately would pretty much have the edge in most places. My second choice would be Jason K. A bit lessor known, still can bring a game to the table.

Hey Steve,
Whats been going on in Detroit lately? I am planning on visiting the area in mid february with a friend, and we are gonna be playin some pool. We have a plan in our head, but looking to fill a Friday midday/evening. Any ideas where there might be some decent action? Not looking for the major players either.

Allright, before anyone takes him I'm gonna load up with a case of Cellas' chocolate covered cherries and take..........Jack Cooney.

I know we would have to sit in the first place we went and not hit a ball for a month but we would end up leaving with the cash.

Even if we didn't make enough we could always auction off Barbs' notebook........who knows what thats worth?

Perk,
What's happening? I guess go to Bogarts in the afternoon first unless I have a place ready by then. After that you can try Hall of Fame in the evening. I'll IM you my cell # before then and you can call me when you get here. OR....................you can hunt that guy down from up in Houghten Lake and call me, LOL.

Reno,

Are you a fan of Brazilian Jiujitsu??? I know this is off the subject, but I have been a follower of the UFC ever since 93.

Me....... please......

On a more serious note I would take Bernie Mikkelsen after he secretly practiced for a couple months. The guy could still beat virtually anyone in the world and has been away for long enough he would get lots of games.

I would like to take myself...I never had the chance to go on the road to play pool, and probably won't in the near future. Probably for the best...I get pretty tired of playing pool after participating in a weekend tournament. Might be a different story though if I were in action all the time.

Good post Steve, I would take Alex P. with me. He's the kind of guy who would be an absolute blast to travel with and more importantly he's one hell of a money player. I can't wait until the day when him and Jose Parica match up for big $$$....DCC;)

Jr. Goff

MIKE TYSON!!!!!!!!

Hustling factored in I say Jr Goff! Oldie but goodie!

I grew up in the same town that Jr. has spent the past 30 or so years in. He can still "gin it" for a "70 something" year old man.

He probably knows more moves than anyone EVER!

Here is a link to a story I found about him..............................
