There are two more who always impressed me with their presence and style of play, David Matlock and Ed Kelly. Daves stroke is a little long, but very smooth and consistent.

Both these guys have to be considered one of the best all around players ever. Just like the Miz.

There is just something about a left handed pool player to me that always looks more natural and special. They seem tohave that smooth natural stroke.

you are a smart man!!

I voted other... I'm thinking Deuel, but Thorsten would be a good one as well...
yes!! They both shoot threw the cue ball as if it was never there. mho this factor is what separates the pros from the wannabes.

Prove it yourself by taping ,watching .There is a up or down when most players contact through the cue ball which leads to their missing the shot..

Tip of the day, same angle in as out is a smooth consistent stroke and less misses.

Another vote for the Miz here. Mika and Cory are my second choices. I also think the Mike Sigel of yesteryear had excellent form.

Of course, Buddy's form is tremendous and must get a vote. I'm surprised, though, that nobody has mentioned Mike Sigel. Despite all the talk, which can be truly annoying, he possesses a truly beautiful stroke.

Ginky SanSouci and Max Eberle are two of the present-day players who have impressed me with their great fundamentals.

Finally, you can never go wrong with the Surgeon (or do you prefer "the Kaiser"?. He just does everything right!

How about Danny Harriman

Personally I think Danny Harriman has great fundamentals, a good stroke and a very repetitive approach to each shot (ie. good shot routine)

I just noticed it. I had to get up and do something in the middle of writing my post, and obviously, a lot of posts went up during that time. My bad!:)

Edit: I just looked at the time stamps on the posts, and you're absolutely right. I just missed it. Well, ain't Ginger and Maryanne fine, though?

For best all around fundamentals, which includes stance, stroke, and preshot routine, I go with Davenport and Rempe.

The best stance I've ever seen is Efren's.

The best stroke that I would like to emulate would be a tossup between Davenport, Dennis Hatch, Corey Deuel, or Buddy Hall.

The best preshot routine is between Nick Varner and Corey Deuel.

The best stroke ever was the Miz's, for power plus accuracy. I wouldn't try to copy his though, he had alot of shoulder and elbow movement. I think that Steve Mizerak could have given Larry Nevel a run for his money when it comes to power plus accuracy.

Oh crap, now I forgot that I also like Larry Nevel's stroke, for being silky smooth, straight, accurate, and powerful. There are too many good players to try to emulate. If I try to emulate everyone next thing you know I'll be stroking with the cue between my ear and shoulder leaning sideways and standing on one foot. :D

You left out the person who should top the list: Kim Davenport

I might tend to agree...as far as the mainstream known names...although during your thrashing of one Mr Davenport I was sitting there trying to decide who had the better form.......I actually gave the nod on form to you because you don't vary your warm up stoke speed....(actually I don't think you vary anything)...I don't think the varied stroke speed is a good form to emulate...(JMO)

Even though he did not have a great tournament (by his standards) I still have to go with Max Eberle as the best form to emulate. I just can't see anyone getting any more solid over the shot...keep the head so still it looks like it is stuck in place, yet look so relaxed over the shot...

I picked Mika, but I would go Buddy Hall over Mika. For a beginner, i would go with who is the most orthodox.
Im thinking the exact same thing, and chose Mika from the list. Buddy Hall would be number one with his beautiful piston stroke, Steve Mizerak a VERY close second, then Mika. I think the best mechanics/stroke come from an economy of motion. Nothing wasted, if its not needed, its not part of the stroke.

Don't even try emulating the Filipinos except for Marlon Manalo. Their strokes are very personal. Their shooting mechanics is more like "I shoot the way want." That's just how they shoot, probably since they started playing.

After thinking about this I'd say you emulate someone that is a close match to your rhythum. If your quick choose one, if your laid back choose one of them. It doesn't matter, pick more than one. Probably no one person fits you exactly, it has to be you.

I have been watching a lot of Niels Feijen videos lately, and I saw that he had great fundamentals and got to thinking.....

Doesn't Niels hold his cue under his ear? Like Earl. I wouldn't be recommending this to anyone.

I still contend that if Earl held the cue either under his chin or dominant eye and looked at the cue ball last, he would unbeatable.

I voted for Hohmann, but in retrospect I think Miz had the best stroke, except for Cole Dixon. Nobody could even come close to his accuracy ..... nobody, even in their dreams. Just ask Grady.
