Who's your favorite player..

No Doubt - Buddy (Not Even Close)

I have seen Buddy play 9-Ball better than ANYONE has ever played the game.

I have seen him as he progressed (19 years old) & "Snapped". I have seen him develop from a good player to a great player to THE BEST PLAYER. There never has been anyone who "MASTERED" 9-Ball but Buddy came the closest when he was playing in Shreveport for about a 3-year period. The physical aspect of his stroke was perfect and it was adaptable to the individual shot. He practiced for 12 hours every Thursday (no exceptions) and his mental aspect has never been duplicated. As good as Efren is today, Buddy would have "Put Him Asleep". Buddy's 9-Ball table vision & patterns were perfected to the point of making the game look easy. Buddy was the BEST and most BORING player to ever play 9-Ball. To this day, (I just watched him play at the DCC), I can learn more and play better after watching Buddy.

The three players that i enjoy watching much more than all the others are:

Efren Reyes
Efren Reyes
Efren Reyes

Couldn't have said it better SJM. Not only his skill but his great attitude!!

I was asked by Tammie Wesley Jones on this forum if during the seventies I ever saw Buddy Hall at Greenway Billiards. I mistakenly said no. Thanks to Hemicudas pic of Buddy posted a few days ago I can now say "Yep, I saw Buddy Hall play in late 70's early 80's"(didn't know who he was back then). He is best 8-ball player I've seen (what he was playing when I saw him).Only person I'd say was better was Mosconi in the early ABC matches.

Mike Sigel- to learn from his technical brilliance

Earl Strickland- because he plays like it's what he was born to do

1) reyes - you would always get to see shots you'd never even have considered, even during practice (no need to watch trickshot competitions when efren's onboard)

2) engert - all the german players have this almost mechanical precision, but engert seems to have this and a little extra 'feel' for the game, which makes him more exciting to watch

3) pagulayan - what can i say? his matches are always exciting, especially if he's trailing. he has a lot of heart

4) mizerak - grew up watching him play so he qualifies

to watch. The ones that make you want to play. The ones that you emulate. The ones you grab a front seat to watch...

Ya know - I hadn't been watching much 'pool' on ESPN2 for many years (wife's not a big fan) until I decided to get "back into stroke".

Tony Robles - When I saw him in a match a few months back I was so impressed with his methodical stroke. Very "rythmic" - I noticed his eyes 'bouncing' in a later match earlier this month from CB to OB and some 'ticks' (I have those same left hand bridge ticks - friends tell me to STOP IT! - LOL) and his game is down a bit lately.

Keith McCready - Ok - I'm biased here because I played him many many years back ...spottin' me the 7. He plays much different today than he did then ('79 - 82' or so). BUT - He's a hell of a nice guy. There was this Navy guy that played with us too (College Billiards, San Diego:: U out there?) - can't remember his name - HE WAS KICK ARSE TOO ... I got married and fairly much quit until the last year or so (I'M BACK!)

Efren Reyes - He really seems to be a nice person too. How on earth does he control the CB with that OUTRAGEOUS bridge (2 '???) ???

P.S. - Don't care much for arse?ole players - I'm not mentioning names, some are accredited indeed, but due to thier treatment of others I WILL NOT consider them anything but fodder

Top of the stack absolutely has to be Efren.

Buddy Hall, stroke smooth as butter.

Corey Duell.

Earl.

For pure entertainment Luc Salvas, man no grass grows under that guy's feet.

Then there is that unexpected joy of watching a nobody (as far as you know) roadplayer who just seems to have it all.

Least like to watch, without any doubt Ralf Souquet, not only can grass grow under his feet a whole forest could.

Allison Fisher is also fun to watch. Her patterns and her control of the cue ball and the situation make her simply the best there is.

...

How could I forget to mention Allison in my original post, shame on me.

Buddy Hall - I don't know if there's a stroke now or ever that's been as effortless and pure. It never changes.

Mike Sigel - He made everything and beat everyone, over and over and over again with unshakeable confidence

Earl - No need to explain

DM, will you STOP copying me!!! :p

Oh, yeah . . . . ditto on these three picks.

Johnny "might" be good someday if he ever starts playing with a cue made by a custom cuemaker and a Predator. ;) :p :D

Are YOU talkin' to me? LOL

At least we're on the same side of the Predator fence. ;)

I have to pick

Earl & R Morris. Both entertaining in different ways. But like a post before, Earl was born to play pool. He has done things on the felt that is nobody ever will.
Rodney Morris is the nicest guy. And a true 9baller. Stroke of genuis.

strickland - fabulous pool and extra entertainment to go along!

pagulayan - the little guy is incredible, full of charisma, and played out of canada!

"rocket" o'sullivan - watching him play inspires me like no other.

When did you see Buddy Hall play at the Greenway? I hung out at the Greenway in the late '70's and watched Buddy play Dan Louie there in 1977. It turns out that Hemicuda's was there at the same time.

Hmmm...Guess I'll have to go with some unique answers.

Mike Massey: I've never been more entertained than when watching him shoot trick shots. Not to mention when he's shooting serious pool. His facial expressions are priceless!

Jesse Bowman: I've been watching him shoot pool at an adult level since he was 7 years old. He has more natural talent than any other player that I've ever seen.

Any female player: I love the fact that more and more women/girls are getting into pool and shooting better and better every year. Co-ed is NEVER a bad thing.

1) Luc Salvas, how can you not enjoy watching this guy shoot, he never hesitates he just steps up to the table and fires away, he also wears his emotions on his sleeves during a match.

2) Efren Reyes, they don't call him The Magician for nothing.

3) Alex Pagulayan, for his charisma and his shotmaking ability. He is always fun to watch with loads of personality that make him a definite fan favorite.
