Everyone has the same option, read a post or thread or not read a post or thread!!! Very simple. If you do not like what a person writes in the forum, pass it by. I would really like to know why people cannot be nice and kind? I thank you for your input. I am speaking of pool players, so it is pool related.
Many Regards,

This issue does need airing. 'Troll' spotting is an obsession with this site, yet I don't recall seeing a single one, at least none that are damaging - we all need a little light relief from time to time, after all.

That word is used by insecure people as a device to maintain their own power base. It is used whenever there's disagreement. It is used to stifle debate. And let me tell you, as an outsider looking in, you NEED debate and you NEED to change the way you teach the game or it will be an irrelevance on your continent within a decade. You continue to replicate failure, so the spotlight needs to fall on those that are doing it.

Grow some balls, bruise some egos, cut that 'tash and CHANGE.

X2 Great Message I hope it sinks in *S

I wouldn't really call them haters.

It's hard making a movie. It's easy to criticize it.

I just think, some people find it easier to pick on things others write on the forum than reaching inside themselves and coming up with an interesting though for themselves and posting it.

It's a mild form of BULLYING.

It is what it is.

Just my opinion.

This is the internet, roll with it or dont participate because its not going to change anytime soon.

This is what you get when you have thousands of anonymous people speaking their mind with little fear of repercussions.

For those of us who remember what it was like when face to face communication was the norm, this is a bit of a shock to the system.

As far as trolls go (even trolls who say they are useful ), in the old days, they were the guys that no one would talk to. Here, they get to talk all they want, but you still dont have to respond.

No, it is used when you exhibit the behavior of a troll. Which is when you post to antagonize others. You do this often.

There's a nit in every pool room

my theory is that there's that one guy in every room that complains or nit picks every little thing, we all know that guy. The issue with a forum is that all those guys can come together in one place instead of being spread out through the individual pool rooms.

This is just a theory...i'm no expert.

:D

The question is - do you just pass by information that you feel is completely inaccurate and may, in your opinion, hurt someone's pool game or do you comment on why you think it is BS.

I actually think passing by a thread you disagree with is doing the forum a disservice.

I just feel people have strong opinions on certain subjects and they are airing their opinion. If the forum had no emotion it would be a very boring place in IMHO.

Sadly, having been around forums and running them for the last 6-7 years, I have come to realize a forum is not a forum without the 'trolls". It's like herpes, once you have em, you've got em for life. You can ban, threaten, delete etc.. all you want there will always be one just waiting for the right thread to pounce on.

Consider the demographics........there are many in poolrooms/bars I would never socialize with the players, allot of em come here probably because of lack of attention at the room because of their actions to others. Here there's no face, its easy to hide.

I think he meant it alone the lines of.. If you come across a thread, statement etc.. that you don't agree with, state your opinion, argument etc.. but be respectful about it. Don't just pop into a thread and call someone an idiot

I only get upset with people that are being complete idiots. This is JHMOSTIEOM

the haters and trolls are like flies t a picnic

The haters and trolls are like flies at a picnic, they are annoying but no big deal. At least one circling this thread, almost any thread. Ignore them and they have to find somewhere else to play. What I find far worse than the trolls and haters is when two good people poison their relationship over a thread on an internet forum. You see two good people fight and it sometimes poisons their relationship in most threads they both post in. That is far more damaging and far more loss than the trolls and haters.

It is a huge loss when a good poster decides the flies are too bad and goes away too. No forum this big is dependent on one or two posters so it seems no big deal when we lose one poster. Problem is that we have lost several dozen good posters in the few years I have been here and we aren't getting the same quality of posters, or better posters, back. Back when I first came to AZB I checked the forum's value on a site that rates value just to get some idea of the size and stability of AZB. It was worth $35,000 by their rating then. I wonder what it is worth now. Anybody know?

edit: I don't know if I used the same site each time to check value so hard to know if this means anything but at the calculator I just checked AZB is worth $22,700, a loss of about one third of it's cash value in seven years according to the valuations.

Some people are just that way.

About ten years ago, I participated in a message board that had an especially nasty troll. Another poster pointed out that this troll was on several message boards and was actually on a Top 10 list at a troll monitor's Web site. The troll mentioned in one of his posts that he would be passing through my area, so I invited him to meet for a beer. He was an intelligent guy, and we had some good conversation. I could see he was nervously anticipating me dropping a bomb on him about his trolling. He brought it up himself. He explained that he worked from home as a translator, often drank while he worked, and diverted himself by "lobbing grenades" into forums. I didn't get on him about it, because it was clear that he realized the position he was in. We parted on friendly terms, and he was a lot more civil after that (at least on the forum where I posted). I was happy to see that he was a good guy in person, and I think he realized that it was wrong of him to be such a bad guy online. So maybe we're right about trolls just needing a friend.

Many trolls do see it as cheap entertainment, totally thoughtless of what it does to the forums and other posters. There was a troll that was truly outrageous on a shooting forum, making physical threats to me and many other posters. Death threats are a little more serious when everyone on the forum owns many guns. He boasted that nobody could find him. Less than two hours later I sent him an e-mail suggesting that we meet to sit down like reasonable people and discuss his issues. I suggested we meet at his home(address supplied) or the marina where he worked(address supplied).

Immediate change in attitude! He admitted that I could find him and he said that "we" were taking things way too seriously. He came back a few weeks later with a change of attitude, apologized for acting like an idiot and became a quality poster.

Haters can be haters in a pool forum, BECAUSE THEY CAN, nothing more.

Haters just love to hate.

The truth is there aren't that many haters in a pool forum. It's just that the haters are vocal, repeat offenders and it just looks like there are more of them than there really are.
