Why Concede the Last Ball

I like the snooker method....
...you can only concede a game when it is YOUR turn at the table.

...solves a lot of problems

The snooker players also concede when they theoretically have a chance to win -- say needing 5 snookers.

Ronnie does this a lot. He throws frames away that he is more than capable of winning because he doesn't want to get into a drawn out safety battle. Where as a Mark Selby or a Peter Ebdon will give it a shot if they need 2 or 3 snookers. Getting 5 snooker against a top player with say only the colours and a couple of reds left is near impossible. It's like trying to get 5 snookers on a pool table with just the 8 and 9 left. Too much room, and too many ways to get out of it for the top guys.

Snooker players get fined if they concede out of turn. Maybe they should employ player fines in pool to stop people automatically giving up the money ball.

I've seen a guy miscue on a 6" straight in shot on a set case ball & it cost him $500. You never can tell what will happen, it's why we play.

If the guy ran all the balls (or most of them) and has the last one that's easy, then I concede because I don't want that win if he "miscues" or "strange things happen"..... Yes, a win is a win, I get that... But I want a rack that I worked on, not one that fell into my lap....

I typically concede to players I'm familiar with and I know that they're a favorite to make the ball. Same thing in league as well - I do it as a show of respect for my opponent.

But, I've also ran into some players who are running the rack out and dead straight on the 9. I go to concede the game and they tell me to stop because they want to "earn" the run-out.

So, basically, I only concede shots to people I'm familiar with AND respect. As for me, I have no preference of being given the shot or having to shoot it.

Grady once told me he witnessed a guy miss the final ball for $5,000. It was 6" from the side pocket, between the two side pockets, straight in and the cue ball was back about a foot.

Not sure what your poin is, but having known the Professor, I am sure his point was that with all th pool he's seen, he's only seen the gimme missed once.

Bet on the shooter, every time.

Not a fan of conceding racks!! :-(

I always tell people, "Finish your breakfast!!"

Dont give it or accept it!!

I dont like it when a guy gives his opponent 'the 9' during the beginning stages of the match but when its close to the money rounds and the score gets close toward the end of the set, all of a sudden he stops giving his opponent 'the 9'.

To eliminate ALL this, "Finish your breakfast!"

I don't concede anything..make the ball like your supposed to. If someone I'm playing finds it disrespectful then so be it.
