Why do bangers think they deserve a shot at the table?

Bangers think about how many balls they have to make... We think "get to the 8 and pocket it legally"... They dont think strategy or that the 8 is the winning and losing ball, they're too worried about how many balls they have on the table.

This is why they get suckered so easily into an 8-ball game racked like 9 (with the 8 in the middle) and leave them with just two balls to make (the stripe and the 8).

to put it plainly... they don't understand the game.

Bangers just have a different mindset and you have to remember that when you play them. These are the guys who gauge how well a game of 8-ball is going by who has more balls on the table at the moment.

This is a great point. Try to take yourself out of your mindset. You and I would probably really enjoy playing people who are better than us so wecan learn new things and sharpen our game. All they want to do is stick to their own game, not learning anything and kick the crap out of whoever is at the table. Want to really get a reaction out of them? When you break and run hand them back the quarters they dropped and say "sorry". My brother-inlaw does this to me sometimes and it drives me nuts! Lol

Ha!!! Haven't tried that one yet.:grin-devilish:

Just tell em you tweeked your shoulder working out, so they can have the break. Everybody shoots, you still play for free and you can still shoot run out pool. It's a win win win imo.

Just remember, I don't care who you are (disregarding the champions), to some people YOU are a banger. It hurts me to admit this to myself also. Playing on a Valley, I've run eight. But there are players that can offer the last four. It just pains me to actually know this. There's more than just running out when you're playing a champion. There's "fading his racks."

When I'm at the bar playing some bar box 8ball, I'm trying to break and run everytime. Although it doesn't happen as often as I'd like, I always here people complaining that they don't get to shoot? ;) Isn't that the point of the game, to pocket all of your balls in the least amout of innings? In the last few weeks I've been sharked a few times when I was about to run out. I understand that they put 75 cents in the table, but don't they understand what I'm trying to do? (don't talk to me when I'm shooting) :outtahere: I know what your all gonna say that I should just go to the pool hall and play some real players, but I like to go to the bar on Friday...

If you go to a Bar to play pool you have to expect to deal with recreational players and Drunks. These people are not their to improve their game all they want to do is enjoy themselves, they could care less what your purpose is.

So yes you should go to a pool hall if you are serious, playing Drunks benefits know one!!!!!! Unless their intent is to make themselves feel Superior.

No offense, just my opinion!!!!

If I was playing for funzies with a banger Here's what I would do. First, give them the break.Second, after my balls were all potted (limey talk for made) I would tell them that I could not shoot the 8-ball until all his balls were also gone. Then I would continue shooting until I missed and he had a better chance to win or I made all his balls too. Only then would he or I be able
to shoot the 8-ball. That way he would feel that he has a chance to win, it
extend the game and all the balls would be used. Bangers always seemed happy and would be willing to take a chance again and again. And it's a better challenge for you. Try it.

I would love it!! I do not mind playing better players, since I want to get better, and that is one of the ways to do it. Especially if it is only gonna cost me quarters a game.

But once again, I like pool, and I want to learn more. Bangers think they are already good, and are upset they are losing, even though they should - I will say that not all the people I play are like that, but there is always one a night. NOT ALL people who play in a bar and aren't very good, can be considered a BANGER!!
And I always try to play around to make it fair - shoot lefty, bank mid % shots, etc.
But I also do not try to LOSE!!!

My dad taught me "NO MERCY" at a young age. No karate kid reference here!!!:p We used to play every weekend(almost every single one) when I was 5, and he never let me win - NEVER!!! I won my first game when I was 8, and it meant something to me, and probably the reason behind how I play right now. I can remember how the whole game was played, though I am 38 now.

Don't forget the pool table deserves respect - seen too many of the bangers believe it is an ashtray, coaster, seat, etc. If you go to a bar, and decide to play pool - respect the game and the table!! Otherwise, you get to stand around and watch me play - you might learn something!

My 2 cents-

Michael

Too hell with all that Mike, JUST SWEEP THE LEG!

It is my not at all humble opinion that bars are not for civilized folk. Real pool is a civilized game. The OP sounds like he's a better player than these guys in this joint he attends. I say to the OP find a better place to play and quit liking getting JACKED OFF by the bar duds. Your Johnson might feel better after a long night plugging away at these bangers but the quality of the stroke in your wood is going to be sub standard b/c of it in the long run.

Bar pool is crap for a great mind for real pool. It's like Crack and will stunt your growth.

Just say no,
Grey Ghost

correct me if I'm wrong but without the bangers of the world most pool-halls would go bust. They are a necessary evil.

Hey man, that young gal I was with thought I was a world champion pool player (not sure how she got that idea) and then you ruin it for me by running out and never giving me a shot.

Give a brother a break.

Why not let the bangers break? That way you can run out all over 'em and they can't complain about not having an opportunity at the table.

Oh, I'd say that they understand all too well what you are trying to do (i.e., get free playing time at their expense)!

Ergo, I'd expect them to do one or more of the following in order to get some table time:

(1) shark you anyway they can

(2) pull up stakes (i.e., their challenge quarters) and let you practice by yourself with your own quarters until your done

(3) move to a different table, if available

There is one other available option, look em straight in the eye and say..."Gentlemen, as you can see I'm serious about my game. Should any of you wish to improve yours, then i suggest you do as I did. Find someone who plays better than you and play them for money. Would any of you care to play for $.......Dan

I always love the "why arent the non-pool players happy that I am so good at pool" threads...

If you're there to have fun, why don't you ask them to play again, and offer to pay for the game and give them the break.

It's a win for everyone... yes? It's not like you're concerned with the price of one or two games, right?

Just sayin...
