Why does my tip flatten so much?

I've been playing pool for about 12 years now and I've ALWAYS had an issue with my tips. I usually play moori/kamui mediums. But I'll shape my tip to a dime shape and within literally 30 minutes of playing, my tip is a nickel shape at best. Probably a little flatter than a nickel shape. I've never known why. I don't think I hit the ball hard either. I'd say I hit the cue ball at an average hit. I have to reshape my tip almost every night. Maybe I should go to a hard tip?

Stop hitting so much center ball. Use more English. That is, your tip conforms to your playing style. IMO, you should stop fighting how you play and let the tip end up where it wants to be.

I agree with this. The tip shapes itself. Layered tips will mushroom much less than single layer tips like LePro or Triangle. That said, I have had single layer tips that did not mushroom either...and I break with my playing cue. I have a LePro on one of my Revo shafts right now! :D

Are you sure those are real Kamui M tips?

My kamui med plays hard in my opinion, shaped it once in 6 months, also break with it.

Tips naturally compress a bit unless they are very hard to begin with. You may not be giving your tips enough time to settle in to their natual hardness. I would suspect your chalking technique may be partly to blame here as well. I NEVER have to shape my tips after the initial job, although I will have to trim the mushroomed edge a few times along the way. I think my tips maintain their shape due to the manner in which I chalk them.
