Why Heated Tables?

I am completely ignorant in this subject and I'd love some insight..

why are some tables heated and why only the larger 5x10 and up tables??

does it have something to do with the larger pieces of slate???

what is the advantage?

I've also wondered the same. The billiards table at my favorite hall is heated...damned if I know why.

It makes them faster becuase it takes the humidity out of the cloth bed and rails. Johnnyt

Far as I know, only Billiard tables are heated, not Pool tables.

It makes them play consistantly- regardless of (indoor!) ambient contitions.
