Why I Moan & A Death

DCP,

What are your goals within the game? Please be as specific as possible, though I don't mean in terms of number of racks run.

- Steve

Steve I asked him in another topic something similar and he never replied.

So DCP I will ask you one more time, a question you need to meditate on and give a heartfelt, honest answer.

"Why Do You play This Game?

Another game you may want to play for your practice sessions is "Q-SKill'
Rules are on this site, quick synopsis, Rack all 15 balls break them wide open, make first 10 in any order, 1 point each, make the last 5 in rotation, 2 points each. 10 racks completes a session.

txplshrk...Huh? Hmmm...the dvd's were two hours long...and there were two of them (one he got for FREE). Do you think the poster you're talking about ever watches a movie? Not many movies are less than two hours long. Even if you could not 'absorb' two hours worth of information at a time (and that's a distinct possibility with most anyone), you could CHOOSE to watch 30 minutes at a time, and practice what you saw in that 1/2 hour. Like many others have posted, I believe this person is just looking for the 'magic bullet'...and it just doesn't exist. The best instructor/pro player on the planet can't help you, if you won't help yourself! Nuff said...

Scott,
DCP HAS replied to this question in a previous thread (as all "DCP watchers" know).

Whether his goals are reasonable and achieveable with his current strategy is the question. Good luck to DCP.

first, Elvicash, i dont think i am going to be able to meet up with you this weekend. as some might know i work at a naval installation, and one of our ex-chiefs was killed in a tractor accident last night. our building is very quiet so far today. plans are already underway for events, and as a result i will probably be on base this weekend. i was planning on being off tuesday and wednesday next week (5 day weekend), so i was probably going to work at least one day this coming weekend anyway. if nobody wants to believe this i am sure i will be able to provide a link.

second, regarding my moaning. of all the sports i have ever tackled this game of pocket billiards has been the toughest. i have taken lessons from Tom Rossman, Diana Minor, Mark Wilson, and now Scott Lee. i still listen to the audio/video tapes from Rossman, still at times review the material i received from Diana and Mark, and, yep, have watched the Scott Lee dvd twice and been through his notes.

i have bought four tables (7 foot Brunswick, 8 foot Steepleton, 9 foot E. A. Burgin, and the Gold Crown IV). i have bought all kinds of cues, i wont go into the makers. i have bought Kinister tapes, Bob Byrne tapes, have all kinds of teaching aids, such as the elephant balls, Rempe ball, pocket reducers, Buddy Hall cue guide, ghost ball trainer, Joe Tucker's third eye, been to professional tournaments at Vegas and Peoria. used to practice with the 1998 BCA 8-Ball champ (Dave) until he passed, bought all kinds of books from Phil Capelle and others, tape the ESPN shows and watch them constantly, bought all kinds of Accu-Stats tapes and watch them constantly, subscribe to Inside Pool, P&B Magazine, Billiards Digest, etc, etc, etc, etc. in short, i have been consumed with this sport/hobby for years now.

the point i am trying to make is that it frustrates me that i still struggle with consistently, and am not a world beater by now. i guess i expected more. normally when i tackle a sport (basketball, baseball, golf) it doesnt take me long to get pretty good. and please dont think i am being a pompous SOB in stating that. i am not Larry Bird, Don Mattingly, or Jack Nicklaus, never was close in any. my point, once again, is that pool has been the most difficult for me to somewhat master. and that does somewhat frustrate me. i realize there is no "Magic Bullit" out there, it takes TONs and TONS of effort to become an accomplished player. but after nearly 9 years of practicing/playing 2-4 hours a day i thought i would be better. and when those bad rolls start to happen it just compounds things, and gets me down mentally. i start to question if i am wasting my time. just dunno............:(

DCP

After 9 years of training, it's time to hit the road. Go out and get some seasoning. I didn't see anything on your list about going head to head with world beaters. You need to chuck it all and hit the trail and make it a matter of play well or starve. Then you can mix it up.

It's like Corey said about him being "in between" when he hit the road at 18. Too young to play in the Camel Pro Events and too good to play in Amateur events. So he gambled his way through and played open events so that when he finally did get to the pro game he was comfortable with his game, knew how well his opponents played and even benefited from a general fear of him.

In order to play as good or better than the pros you need to get out there and beat them. All the books, tapes, instructionals, and training balls only serve to lay down a foundation for you to build on. No one would watch a Bruce Lee movie if he didn't prove himself worthy of his training by going and kicking ass at the end.

So now we have heard all about all your trials by training. The next step is to tell us about your victories over stronger and stronger players.

lol, I'm not completely defending DCP cuz he does have a problem, but I think russ is being a total ass to suggest the guy actually made up a death and is just consciously manipulating people for kicks. That's out of line.

Dcp

DCP,
I do not want to read through all the other posts. So if this has been stated then my apologies. I am going out on a limb here but I believe your MAIN problem lies in your ability to reason. Not every 9 ball rack is meant to be run out. Most of the tables you offer up for advice are all about how you can run out. It is not about being able to run the toughest of racks. It s about winning racks. Whether it be by run out or safety play. You must work on reading the table and deciding if it is runnable or you need to lay down a good safety.

If there are balls tied up and you have a 2 way shot to make the OB and get a tear out to keep running then fine. But if you have to over work the cue then this is where you get into trouble. Read the table with more discretion and you will find yourself winning racks which is the ultimate goal. Eventually you will find yourself running more racks as you know all the routes to take.

i totally agree CreeDo.

i am hoping the obituary will be online tomorrow. if not, i have another source - another poster on here that also works here at the naval base.

Just curious, DCP.. Since you say you knew the man well.. Do you have any idea what he did with his weekends? I do..

his wife was into Show Dogs. believe they had some connection with the Terrier that won Best In Show at Westminster. plus his son was big into baseball, traveled around with his team playing in tournaments.

I don't think DCP made up the guys death. I think you are taking it a little too far there, Russ. I think he is just using that tragedy as a shield and for sympathy. IMHO that's a very shameful thing to do.

not using it for sympathy. i wanted to make sure everyone on here realized, as i stated in this thread before, the reason i probably wouldnt be able to hook up with Elvicash this weekend was partly due to the tragedy and its work ramifications. i figured everyone would jump on me, and hound me, if they found out i wouldnt play someone.

and not as a shield either. although, as poorly as i am playing now i admit i am looking forward to other things too. such as possibly getting a new Toyota Yaris or Corolla. or that girl at the BP station that smiled and winked at me the other night.

Hmm... I'm still not sure if DCP is full of it on this one.. He could have found out about the dogs the same way I did, googling the guys name and home city together..

Still waiting on his breeding club to confirm whether he was Navy or not..

We'll see, I guess.

(And FTR record, DCP, they were BOTH breeders. It was not just her that was into the dogs..)

i dont really care what you think. and by the way, i had some interaction with Baghdad the other day. and nope, didnt make that up either. we sent $$$ over there for some things.

You had better pray to God Russ this dead guy wasnt Navy. If he was, I'll do everything in my power to make sure that these will be your last posts on this forum, for about.... forever!!!!!

............and DCP has still refused to answer most of the SERIOUS questions asked of him........

I would ask him why, but I know he won't anyways!!

Do what you gotta do.. This guy is a confirmed attention hound, and whines about there not being any good players around his town, and the minute someone offers to travel to play him (wanting to confirm how he plays), then he says that THAT PARTICULAR DAY a guy he worked with had just died, and he couldn't.

That doesn't seem suspicious to you?

Even a little?????

The only information he has given has been what could be gleaned from the internet.. I saw the only thing that could not be confirmed was whether the guy was Navy.

I don't like DCP all that much, and I happen to think he made up that the guy works with him. I think he looked in the paper and found a way to get sympathy.. I gave my opinion.

Other people think the same thing. I have gotten 3 positive rep for saying I am going to check on this matter.

Does that mean you are intending on getting them banned too? Some of them are VERY prominent posters, people we ALL know and like.

Please don't let your dislike of me cause you to give DCP the benfit of the doubt. He is an attention craving fool. Even if he had a coworker die, it was inappropriate to bring it up in the manner he did. He just craves attention.

Like I said.. Do what yah gotta do... I think he is full of BS..

Russ

Russ, You really flip out on this guy man. Why do you let him bother you so bad? Your reactions only make you look bad bro.

Sit back. Calm down. You're in a safe place, we all know as AZB.
